Shot a couple of wahoo yesterday with my new Ulusub Blue Steele

  • Took out the sail boat i look after for a shake down sail, it just happened that the old girl sailed over the wahoo grounds offshore, purely by chance i assure you! Well someone has to keep posting wahoo pictures with El Marco off to yellowfin grounds, leaving us poor wahoo boys all alone :rolleyes1:
Took blue Steele out for a shake down, that gun is smooth as butter and could shoot a fly off a horses ass :thumbsup2: It wasn't perfect though, her bands were way long, giving the shots less than the power that should be there. Today i shortened the bands and am very very excited to give her another go all powered up and roaring!! She feels like i could put a much bigger shaft in her open track and would hardly notice any recoil, very very well designed gun. I may get a few more of varying sizes from Jon for my collection ;) By the way Jon is a fantastic person to deal with when getting a gun, real stand up dude with much knowledge.
Anyway, first drift yielded nothing, i reset my drift due to the current to a spot my instincts told me might yield my prey, yeah man! I found um! They were small but they were there. First shot with my new lazer went through and through the tail, score! perfect holding shot on a ho, the bloody cheeky little thing did a tombstone dive, doing way over the US speed limit  and spooled my reel, by the way Jon thanks for tying the reel line on properly!!!! :)
The second fellows shot didnt go through and through, but with my massive Ulusub reel and a 100ft float line attached to my gun, I managed to put no pressure on the ho, and soft handed her all the way to the boat :toast: I have video of the fight and the mori only being held by skin! Dudes and dudets if you are hunting Wahoo use a big reel and floatline combination, put NO PRESSURE ON THE FISH and i guarantee more fish on the boat.
So I finish diving, pack up my gear while my crew is dipping buckets to get the blood off the decks before it gets caked on when he accidentally dropped the bucket overboard. I still having my wetsuit on decides to jump in and save it. For no reason I grabbed my mask and jumped, I grab the bucket and then put on my mask... MAN OH MAN!! The biggest bull dolphin I have ever seen in real life or in a video was just sitting in front my face checking me and the bucket out! Dude had to be almost 5-6 ft long and all of 70 maybe, INSANE! I start screaming like a little girl for my gun, i get it, still no fins, weights, nothing, and load up two rubbers before a cow in the 50's does a swim by, i wont lie... i did crap, i kept trying to load the other rubbers instead of taking the two rubber shot, but knowing the guns rubbers were to long already i felt i needed more power for a successful shot :( bad call :( . Just like that they were gone, but my camera is on my mask so i got video of the giant cow as consolation.

  • Nice fish and nice gun dude! I just ate Wahoo tataki for the first time last night at my sushi spot and my wife and I loved it. Can't wait to land a fresh one myself. Keep em coming, I learn when you and Marco do these posts.

Pink not red. Matches his Pink belt. Haha

There are Wahoo in Panama :)

George - I gave Jon's Ulusub Spearguns a lot of consideration then realized I already have spearguns that rarely get wet anymore so no more spearguns for collecting. They sure do look great and obviously get the job done.

Hope you get it tweaked for your type of hunting.

Okay am i supposed to guess which meaning? :confused1::@
el cabron. Spanish equivalent to Jerk, or asshole, except a little bit more harsh. Could also mean " Bad Ass". Comes from the spanish term for Goat(Cabra).
