Ocean Kayak Torque motorised kayak

  • I've always wanted to demo one of these yaks.

I have a Hobie Revo 13 (with peddle drive) and while it seems easier to "peddle" than "paddle", nothing beats the fact that you can just turn on a switch, motor up, and get to you favorite spots in minutes.

True, some have said that this defeats the purpose of "kayak" fishing / diving. I can see their point, but I'm not going to argue about getting to your favorite spot with less effort. That means more energy preserved for diving.

If I want to work out, I'll go to the gym.:D

  • To quote Jhip, this kindda defeat the very purpose of a yak. In that case I would better choose a nice zodiac with a 12 hp outboard. Bigger, roamier, faster and safer; a dingy or zodiac inflatable is even easier to transport than this. Other concern with that electric kayak is durability.

Not my cup of tea definetely, interesting concept tho

    I'm a Speardiver, not a freediver

  • Monster, what can be done here with this motorised kayak is launch from a public beach, where launching of any motor boats is not allowed. Just hide the motor, paddle out, then replace the motor and off you go.

  • That this is fine for you Florida guys with the swimming pool seas, here it would be shorted out with the first wave.:D:)

    Cheers, Don

PS OK.... you do get some real seas when those hurricanes blow.;)

  • I checked out the Torque yak when it first came out. Frank in the Keys was selling them.
Down side of this yak (IMO) was that to be STRICTLY legal here:
    1. You can not Legally launch motorized vessels off our normal public beaches
    2. You LEGALLY have to register any motorized vessel and have FL #s on both sides of the yak haul with annual sticker
    3. Some authorities stated that any motorized vessel had to have boat lights, meaning port/starboard/bow/stern lights.
    4. Any motorized vessel is required to have "real boat" emergency equipment, meaning PFDs, flares, etc, etc
All of this may have changed over the last several years since I initially check out these regulations.
    Hope this helps

  • Yeah. This yak begs for people to flout the laws. I agree w Hau, I would never add all the cost and gear you need to be a legal motor vehicle to a yak. No room for it all

    i like to spear fish
