I’m staying in Dominican Republic…
did two days ago a first trip to FADs by boating from the Boca Chica marina
my french colleague who living in Santo Domingo and working in a permit hatchery accompanied me
the captain is an experienced local fisherman
FAD are located closer to the coast than in Guadeloupe at about 10 to 15 miles... but, in my modest opinion, in too close proximity so that the tuna schools may get scattered..
main goal for me is to spot these pelagic
a lot of wahoo patrolling and some dorado around the floating device, clear blue water, few sargassum
at the time we’r boating at about 30 mph back to the dock... a storm with heavy rain and low visibility, night falling...
about 3 miles off the marina a terrible impact crash:@
a massive log drifting under the surface... a piece of hull floating:(
fortunately it didn’t happen far offshore!!
Pura vida!
...
ever experienced this?
