Punta Cana, DR

  • Anybody have any experience or knowledge of the spearfishing in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic? My buddy is proposing to his lady and we are doing a trip in December. We plan on taking our guns and the gopro and are hoping to see something worth shooting.

    Any ideas? :confused1:

  • I've been there several times but never brought a gun. If you're going to one of those all inclusive hotels, you will have great time. Be prepared to be drunk the whole week. And if you like to eat, you'll put 10 pounds of fatty flabber at least. :rolleyes1::D

Regarding spearfishing, I've never done that there but one of my friends went out with one of the guys that worked at the Hobbie Cat rental booth. Nothing special, as he told me. I don't think it's worth the hassle of bringing your gear.

If I were you, I'll spend the week partying like an animal and eating like a pig. Drink a lot of Barcelo añejo rum and Presidente beer. You'll have fun.

  • Lots of fads offshore and good wahoo hunting at that time of year my friends there tell me, but how you get to the FAD's I have no idea

  • Still up in the air. I might bring my 110 incase I happen to see something while snorkeling with the wife. Either way I am getting drunk and eating like a pig. :thumbsup2: I've been doing some homework and have read the reefs are beat up though so I guess I'm being optimistic. My buddy is set on bringing his gear and is using his checked bag for our guns so I might as well. I don't leave until Dec 20th but I'll post back and let you know what I see once I get back.

  • If you bring bread from the breakfast buffet in your pockets, you'll be surrounded by 2 pound yellowtail snappers that will eat from your hands. You will also see the occasional barracuda.

I spent a week there this summer.

  • a friend of mine was there recently, he dove the reefs and said was not much life on them but he saw some really big mutton snappers at 50-70 ft deep, he was using a 130cm euro and the mutton were too far and spooky, they wouldnt let him get close enough to shoot. . He said he wants to go back with larger guns.
