I had the privilege to spearfish Guantanamo Bay 2 years ago while my brother was stationed there as a Lt. Commander and we hit the popular spots such as Glass Beach, The Slot, Cable Beach and Philips Park. I know for a fact that I have never experienced more breathtaking dropoffs with such crystal clear water only a stone's throw from shore. Although the fish were extremely skittish, I managed to see the biggest Cubera Snapper in my life. It was well over the 50lb. mark. We shot some nice ceros and schoolmasters and a nice black grouper that did a number on my shaft before tearing lose.
My brother is no longer stationed there but hopefully someday I'll get the chance to return and get that elusive Cubera.;)
