Diving with carbon fins

  • For those of you using speardiver carbon fins. What length did you get and what type of diving are you doing with them? I am thinking about picking up a pair soon and would like some input.

I do a lot of reef diving and kelp diving here in Southern californial and in baja, anywhere from 20-60ft right now. I'm not diving really deep yet, but I will be taking an advanced freedive class in the phillipines, and the fii course here in the states. I was thinking about getting the c100s because I would like the extra propulsion for deep diving, but am worried they will be too long for reef diving baja.

Do you guys ever dive reefs where you might have to pull a fish out of a hole in the reef, or are you supposed to baby the fins and not bump them against rocks at all?

  • Unless you want to use the fins for deep diving, dedicated freediving or you know for certain that you want a longer fin then I would suggest the c90's. They are a great all around fin and more than enough for 100ft+ dives.

I have a set of c90's in Pathos pockets and they are extremely light and powerful yet very maneuverable.

  • i love the c90's..i have had mine for a few years and they are in remarkably good shape...not even many scratches...I do not baby mine, but I also dont dive a lot of wrecks...the fins get careful treatment at all times out of the water...but once they are on and I am diving, I do not even think about them.

    i like to spear fish

  • I mirror Lunkerbuster's testimony, same here. Speardiver C90 are the shite for diving 100 FSW and all day swimming. Yardsale on here has the C100's I believe.

  • More important that lenght (or AS important) is stiffness. It depends on yo r weight, how much you swim and your shape. Get the softer ones that move you.

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.

  • Thanks for the replies guys. I'm leaning more towards the c90s since most of my diving will be less than 100ft. In the future if I start doing a lot more deep freediving, I'll save up and buy the c100s. I love getting new gear anyways. Now I just need to decide on some footpockets.
