White shark encounter spearfishing Florida

  • Aggressive and in murky water. That would scare the poo out of me. . :@

Dan do you know the diver and or details? Must have been scary surfacing and leaving the little cover he was using.

  • I don't know the diver but I'm pretty sure I know what he was feeling :)

Jimmy Roseman of West Melbourne, FL has an encounter with a Great White Shark off of the coast of Florida at Bethel Shoals.

  • I would have shot the Cobia, but then again I would not be spearing with a tank on my back :nono:

A bad day at sea is better than a good day in the boatyard
    George Steele

  • That was intense! He was in serious mode. Pic fins down and back arched. Like an angry bull on crazy pills

I would have also hugged the bottom like that. Anything to keep from letting him under me.

Why no dive buddy and why no ppd? ?

Bethel shoal is not that far north of here either?!?

    i like to spear fish

  • The way the shark kept coming in close makes me think that guy had a stringer of fish on or around him. Can't tell for certain though.

Just seeing a great white would make my hair stand on end but in reality they're ambush hunters. Sneak up and give a life ending bite/blow to the intended prey. It does seem like this one saw an easy snack, like a stringer.

It'd be great to hear the guy's story after the dive. The safety stop must have been pretty stressful….to say the least.

What would happen if you tried to put a shaft into its eye? It seemed pretty close and moving slow. I hope I never have to find out. :D

  • So a buddy of mine raised an interesting point. This shark must be starving here. We have no marine mammals other than dolphins, no pinnipeds and relatively low biodensity relative to the colder waters of the north atlantic or Pacific.

I bet the diver looked like a lot of calories in one meal to that white

Just like a lunker largemouth won't bite anything smaller than a 10 in worm. It is just not worth the calories burned for the calories earned.

    Scary

same thing I thought, imagine being on the surface in blue water and seeing that big guy coming up straight at you like air jaws :@

  • There would be no safety stop for me if I was that diver. And the truth is, unless he was down there for 2 hours, there just wouldn't be any need for one(assuming he's 40' deep) .

  • That Boy was getting hunted.

On the bright side, I would rather be in that position than a Grizzly Bear checking me out.

You want a good campfire book, buy this one Alaska Bear Tales by Larry Kaniut.

All real stories from research. You can figure out as stories goes if the guy died or not.

Fear of sharks, child's play. getting a bear on you, well not my thing. The guy getting mauled and buried multiple times was my favorite. that guy made it to tell the details of the multiple burials.

Great book for Camping out with the kids.

I see a new book from Larry called More Alaska Bear tales. I'm going to have to buy that one.

Fear of sharks nothing compared to fear of bear eating you alive. I dive in Red triangle btw.

It's a book you will read the same day you get it. I did.

Pocket Flare Gun for use on bear or yourself, probably a good idea I figure. Hand Grenade even better, but game warden probably not like that too much.

The Grenade might have changed the dynamics of the diver in video. Not trying to give bad ideas, just thinking....

A shark dart would have been better. Got one of those bad boys in collection.
