Question for the smokers

  • What's up guys. I'm wondering how many of you smoke, how much you smoke compared to how much aerobic exercise you do and most important what are you breath hold times?

I really want to quit. I know the risks and it's still very difficult to get through my skull.. Looking for some motivation.

  • Welcome back Frank. As you know smoking has bad consequences, except for the tobacco companies :cash: Lung, throat, or mouth cancer is serious shit. Cigarette smoke contains carcinogens, you never think it's going to happen to you, but when you get it you're going to cry. Never mind freediving, just quit. Smoking is no longer "cool". You'll save money, your breath won't stink, your house won't stink, your teeth and fingers won't be yellow. Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray, give the honeys something to come back for :)

Thanks Dan! It's been a while, how have you been? The sites look great! I appreciate the advice, i'm going to work on it. Instead of a pack i'm going to buy some patches and see how I do. I've quit before but damned if I don't start up again.

  • Frank,The patch worked for me about 9yrs ago.I did get addicted to the patch for awhile and had to cut it in half and the in fourths to wean myself from them. Now,I notice I sleep better and sex is better.
IM 64 and still stay out in cool water for 3or 4 hrs shooting fish.
I just have a hard time remembering it:D

  • Just wake up tomorrow and decide your done with it. I went cold turkey on Cuban cigars 3 years ago and now I can do just 3 a year.

    Cheers, Don

  • I smoke partagas and Romeo y Julietas, Cohibas and such every once in a while, like in new year or something. Smoking cigars is a rare pleasure. But any excess is bad. Try to be strong and quit it for good. Think in your loved ones.

    I'm a Speardiver, not a freediver

  • Nothing beats a good smoke after a day of diving. Im trying to cut back on it and eventually quit. I usually dive 30-60ft with an average dive time of 1:15,1:30 on a good day. Working out and pool training helps. Hoping to start training at least twice a week, dive weekends and finally quit. That should bring my bottom time up to 2:00.

  • I agree w Marco. Switch to reefer. At least enjoy it then. Hahaha

In all seriousness. You will feel so much better once you do it that your whole quality of life will improve.

    i like to spear fish

  • That lung comparison really did it for me, even if I'm only a very infrequent cigar smoker. I will definitely take the extra few min to put on a quality mask when spraying paint or doing wood work. Thanks for the graphic image Kyle C. We all can learn to take better care of our lungs.:toast:

  • Now seriously, if I were a smoker, I will seriously consider quitting. Every time is getting more difficult to smoke. It is not allowed almost nowhere. It is just a pain in the ass when I'm hanging or working with a smoker and he has to go out for a smoke.

    And is not cool anymore.

A bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day at work.
