• Who grows what and what do you do with it?

I have a few trees at my folks house (Myers lemon and lychee and some coconuts) and at my place, in containers, a Sri starfruit, a Barbados cherry, a brown turkey fig, a red mulberry, and two hibiscus, a sorrel and a rosa. And an herb garden with sage, rosemary, spearmint, and thyme

Most are small, but I get some mulberries and plenty of sorrel. Here is some tea I made w the sorrel calyx and mint. Pretty awesome

  • Ill put up some pics of my little guys and my bigs trees eventually.

Also, my step mom has two raised bed gardens that she fills with all sorts of great veggies from eggplant and squash to kale and bomb tomatoes

Oh and I cayenne pepper I just grabbed at Home Depot while I was there for cabinet handles. He's a real little guy.

I am not sure if I'm moving in a few months or staying here another year so I am waiting to replant in bigger pots

  • Thanks Dan, I think it is important and awesome to grow your own.

Plus I really want to prod Gerald into sharing more gardening tips and his little paradise plot he's cultivated. As he once said," it is like coming to a clearing in the jungle" but every plant is edible. Inspiring!!!

My chick has 2 dogs that use the back yard, do you think they will have issues if I plant ghost chili? I love the ghost hot sauce I have, only need a couple drops on a taco.

    Cheers, Don

  • At my hose back in Miami I have about 30 pineapple plants a token mango tree and sour oranges. The mangos you can grow at home are infinitely better than anything you will buy at publix and the sour oranges make an awesome marinade and goes great with fish.

probably not unless they are the types of dogs that get face first into everything. If they do it will only be once

  • I had tomatoes and Zuchini but they stopped fruiting. I still have Jalapenos, Pineapple, Rosemary, Basil, mint and oregano. I had Ghost peppers for a little while but I could not get them to fruit. Also had eggplant, snap pea,s cucumbers and beets. I started using fish carcasses as fertilizer this year a little late in the season but the plants seemed to really like it. I think in February I will start my garden over some perch and other fish carcasses.

  • Very cool idea hookin, did you do anything to the carcasses or just bury them?

How do the pineapple grow? Little spiney bushes on the ground and the pineapples come out the top?

  • I just harvested my second banana plant. More bananas than I know what to do with.

I have a bunch of stuff growing in the jungle around the house. I'll post some pics and descriptions when I get home tonight...

I just bury the carcass around the plants, A friend of mine swears by crab, shrimp and lobster shells on his avocados and mango trees. I have seen people dig a hole a little deeper to bury a carcass and then a plant on top. I am going to try that method out next.

I haven't harvested pineapple here yet. I'm not sure if I will either because of the cooler temp but back home its just like you said a spiny bush and the pineapple comes out the top. They say that they produce a pineapple once every year or two. So you want a lot of plants around.

  • Pineapples are all about sun. I have had 3 in the backyard jungle that have not fruited in 3 years, while the ones in the front that get more sun, produce fruit every 14-18 months or so. Just chop of the piña, and leave the old plant. It will sprout new suckers that produce fruit faster than replanting the top of the one you just harvested... Enjoy!

  • Awesome guys. Thanks. I guess I don't have the space for pineapple now.

Dan that is some awesome pest control!!! Did you have to shoot it w the pellet gun or did rok do it all himself?
