Dual tube or Loop snorkel

  • When I first saw this I thought the mouth piece has one way valves inside, so you inhale from one tube and exhale out the other. Turns out these are just simple tubes. What do you think of this snorkel? I like that the maker is thinking out of the box. But it doesn't seem like a practical design for serious underwater activity, like the monofin.

Here's the commercial version with valves.

  • Salt fog, I was thinking same thing.

I like my larger bore snorkel, Only problem I had with it was reflecting in my eyes off the bottom of snorkel, some black rubber tape fixed that many years ago.

That snorkel would not work for side roll clearing.

The ABS fitting, just seemed like wrong material for mouth comfort. Could make a simple mold and cast something out rubber.

No Orange flagging on the end so divers and boaters might spot you. guess it depends where you are in water.

It might work in future , it does need some more R/D effort. Those mono fins sure are spendy.

Why didn't he use that vice for all the sanding/grinding?

A 1 inch belt sander would be good equipment upgrade for him, I love mine, you get those Zirconia Alumina belts for it and it grinds stainless for a long time. a 42" x 1" belt is around $2 each or less on Enco. The Kalamazoo Belt Sander, Model 505-1371 for $286 is a great tool.

Food for thought to you guys with mini shops in garage.

  • Have you ever had a sore throat the day after diving? Thats the salt fog thing. Its not the most common thing especially for people who dive regularly. Ive only had slight discomfort the next morning once or twice but that was after not diving for nearly 4 months.

Interesting idea but needs a lot of work before its ready for market.

Smith Aerospace makes a nice monofin though. It is really expensive as mentioned but I think the current US dynamic record was set with that fin.

  • Your throat gets a little dry from the salt air. I've felt it before, I wouldn't say it's a problem. I never thought it was worth mentioning or even realized it has a name until I saw this video. They're probably exaggerating the effect to use as a marketing ploy.

  • Not really felt it, perhaps the same effect if you are in a boat all day as well out in Ocean.

I guess they can find a name for most things. Perhaps a "Saltwater Attention Deficit Diving Disorder Syndrome".

    SADDS

Medication is 3 cold beers. :toast:

  • I don't think that power breather will like going on a 30' dive without the water pressure overcoming the diaphragm valve. looks like a lot of volume to clear when wet.
Maybe it would be ok for underwater hockey.

    I like this one..;)

    Cheers, Don

  • Interesting mask Don. Looks like those moving caps are supposed to be pushed up by the water if the snorkel becomes submerged, and close the snorkel. I bet it created more problems than it solved. Is the mouth covered by the mask or is there a snorkel mouth piece? Crazy design.
