Places to dive in Boca?

  • I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with some info. I am up in Jupiter, but my wife and I are going to be going out on my buddy's boat in Boca. I have absolutely no idea where any decent dive spots are there. He doesn't have a lot of experience spearing or diving so I don't want to put him into anything too deep, like a max of 40 to 50 feet. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -Mike

  • Well Boca is not much of a "fish spot" so to say more like an aquarium dive, it is pretty with lot's of small fish and the occasional mackerel or Hog, but, not like Jupiter. The best is simply start at 1st reef which is around 40 to 60ft depending on the area and just drift north or south on it depending on the current, that is about the most of it in the shallow area, be safe.

    1st reef is 15ft ;)

    2nd reef is like 35-45ft

    3rd reef is around 65ft

I would just drift down the 2nd reef. You can get lucky sometimes and catch a lot of fish.

  • It seems everyone has different perception of what qualifies as the 1st 2nd and 3rd are. what i've considered first reef in hollywood/ft lauderdale was like harry said 15 ft.,, but the shallowest reef i've seen in boca was at least 25 feet., and the next after that is at least 50,, on the outside 90 feet (where the buoy off palmetto is)

They have reefs right off the beach. Its shallow. I guess im thinking just south of Boca. Lighthouse point.
