• I don't typically share my builds, but figured what the heck. Here is my latest build. I am from CA so this will be my yellowtail/white sea bass gun. 58" stock going with a 5/16" threaded shaft (slip tip) with 3 x 14mm small id on a breakaway.

At the moment I have taken a break from the final shaping of the stock and am currently working on the handle. I'm trying something new with the handle. A little experimental so it is taking a little extra time. Once I finish off the handle I'll go back to the final touches on the stock and epoxy coat everything.

I only have two pictures so far, but it's only allowing me to upload one at a time so one to follow with more as more pictures are taken.

  • Haven't had much time to work, but here's some progress on the handle. Didn't end up doing it how I wanted, but still not too bad. Just need to make it a little more ergonomic for my fingers, clean it up a bit, get rid of the edges, etc... and of course fix that chip on the palm side. Still having trouble posting more than one picture at a time so I'll follow up with a few more angles.

  • Looks nice man! I've been thinking a lot about the separate band holes like you did. I like the look but thought you lose effective length by moving the 2 first bands closer to the back than really needed. A slot gets all bands furthest forward. Regardless, I'm thinking of doing the 3-hole as well, but wonder your thoughts on the matter.

I like your band guides too :thumbsup2:

  • I agree that there is a loss of band stretch with individual holes, however, I feel any loss is negligible (if at all) under three bands. I have a theory on this, which I have nothing tangible to provide in support, but through my building hunting, etc. I have decided that with three bands and under the line of sight and the organization of the bands through individual band holes outweighs the band stretch of a slot.

  • Just a little update. Added my lead (2.25 oz). Did a little wood burning and now it's time to finish with some epoxy. Haven't taken many pictures, but when I get a chance I'll add a few angles. For those of you who have not seen the movie and have no reference please do not think I think so highly of myself. It's a movie quote (Pulp Fiction). I've always wanted to say "it's the one that says 'bad mother f***er' on it." My last build was a reef gun that I named "Little Friend" (wood burning on that one done for me) so I figured I'd keep with a theme. First time wood burning so although it isn't perfect it'll do. Tried to get it as close to the true font as possible.

    Brilliant.

  • Man, out of a movie chuck full of awesome lines you choose the right one.
"Bad Motherfokker" is way better than "Royale with Cheese"...;-)

    Cudos, love it!

(haha, the forum bleeps out if you spell MFer the correct way...! Crazy shit)

  • Haha! Yes! Glad you guys get the reference. Thank you all for the kind words.

A few more pictures for you all.

I decided to try using pigment. Figured I'd spice things up so I coated the track and trigger pocket with epoxy/pigment. Kind of cool. I'd definitely like to try some different stuff in the future with pigments.

  • I don't know how I've never heard of the rotisserie for finishing, but someone just mentioned it to me and I grabbed one. Going to set it up hopefully tonight and throw a coat on. For those of you who have not tried it I'll report back.

  • Thanks Dan! By contact points do you mean where I attach the gun to the rotisserie? If so, I figure the butt is easy to figure out since it will be covered anyway. I think at the muzzle is where it may get tricky.
