Dolphin off St. Lucie

  • First dolphin or any blue water fish i have shot. i am used to using a hawaiin sling and securing the spear and head first for hogfish and grouper. I kept putting upward pressure on the shaft so it would not come out. Definitetly should have grabbed his tail. live and learn.

  • Looked like you played him smart. Reading your post I got the impression that he got off and was painfully watching the vid to the end :) Nice fish!

  • Floating along with the flashers and a box of chum. The dolphin would come right up and attack the flashers.

We could not find any define weedline out there.

  • We trolled (H&L) for hours a few weeks ago near there and didn't see one weed line and not even a strike on the 7 lines we had out. Nice fish though man :thumbsup2: I really want to try the Blue water spearing.

  • This was my third attempt and first fish. It is a different animal than reef diving, much slower paced, but when the fish do come in it is extremely exciting. plus there is always the chance of a wahoo or black fin tuna coming up as well (or so i have been told)

  • Here is a stupid question: when spearing in blue water are you in the water while chumming and waiting for the fish to come or do you stay on the boat until the actual fish shows up?? if it is the second don't you risk scaring the fish off when jumping in the water?
