  • Hillraisers video pushed me to post our latest footage. likewise, we had to scramble to find a crew (finding people to go on sunday and return on monday on a saturday is tough even for the bahamas). ultimately 3 of us went. everything was basically caught on sunday.

  • i really love the long shot at around 2:30 as that hog tried to flee..the shot was so far that you can actually see the spear slow down right before impact...very cool

    i like to spear fish

  • Do you guys ever see monster blacks deep that you cant get close to?

Nice video btw. Clear water videos are the only way to go.

can't speak for Jason, but depends on what you mean by "monster" and "deep." I don't have anywhere near your skills, but I have seen plenty of 60# blacks down to 60ft. Some we can get to hole up, some just keep cruising. I imagine that in your depths, there are some pretty sweet fish.

I keep saying to myself, I'm gonna go to Bahamas but I never make it there. That's cool to know you have seen plenty of 60 lbers. :thumbsup2:

  • greekdiver, the 30+ pounders are plentiful, especially a little deeper (50+) where most weekend warriors are not hunting. my buddies got a 60 lber last weekend in 60'. I see some blacks in 15' that make my heart skip but for the most part they keep cruising and the effort to keep up is not worth it, current and everything else considered.

In the deeper stuff, I find if I can come down right over them i have a chance to put a shaft in them, but with the hawaiin sling I have not been able to keep the shaft in them.

hill raiser does a good job with blacks. I do not see many people over there coming back to the docks with good size blacks...I think a lot of people pass on the effort it takes, especially with the hogs being plentiful and curious.

  • How much fuel you guys burn?

And do you guys stay in hotel or camp on the boat?

I think I would want to go there just to kill a 60lb+ black

    btw thanks for the info.

I also agree, that was so cool, and the vis, oh boy you guys had a blast, plus those YFT in the boat next to the big hogs, congrats guys, and thanks for sharing.

  • x2 i have a small (20ft) boat and my cousin has a 23' we want to load up and go over but don't know anything about expenses, fuel burn, places to stay/hunt, etc. I heard that you have to register or something like that over there which is the expensive part. Any truth to this?

were the YFT on spear as well?

Edited once, last by mrmike ().

  • you are probably looking at 100-180 gallons depending on the boat and how many motors it has. should be about 50 miles from miami.

  • FWIW, on a typical day trip I am covering 230-250mi and burning 120-140g in a 27 contender. I like to run day trips as it is an easier sell with the wife and lack of fish after 1 day of shooting has not been a problem.

Jason is dead on with the info on the blacks. They can be tough out in the open, better if they hole up. We see a fair amount of big cuberas, but those sob's are the master at cruising into the current, just out of range. I don't even bother with them when I see them

is that distance so great because you are traveling from stuart across or because you guys move around alot. I think its only 50ish miles for me from hillsboro inlet I have a 20 foot boat with a 2 stroke 150 and 70 gallon tank. I would really hate to need to fuel up over there because I hear its expensive but it beats running out midway back.

  • I took my boat to the tortugas. We fish all the way out there, camped up on the island, and then fish all the way back. I burned 100 gallons for 2 days worth of diving in 22' cat.
