• Just got word today that I may going to Trinidad in as few as 10 days. Riding a drill ship over that my company just added some new equipment to.

In the event that I may possibly get a couple of days to stay before heading home, I was wondering if there was anything special I may need to do to get some spearfishing in. My question is more geared toward licensing or permits.

I don't know just yet where we will be making port, but if there is anyone that may be able to help out with suggestion or even have a boat that could possibly put me and perhaps one more diver on some fish, it would greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

  • I just got back from Tobago a couple of weeks ago. By most accounts, in T&T there are few, if any regulations surrounding spearfishing, so there are no permit or licensing requirements, as far as I know. I didn't stay in Trinidad at all, but the flight to Tobago from Trinidad takes 25 minutes and costs $24 each way (I'm not kidding). There are spearos in Trinidad, but as I understand it, the visibility is much better in Tobago, and so it's the preferred destination for traveling spearos. Good luck and have fun.

  • great spearos in trin. tobago

  • Thanks for the responses all. Will look into more when I get a few more details about the trip.

Thanks for the videos. They were great and definitely a motivator to go at some point even if I don't get the opportunity on this trip.

My passport arrived by mail today! I'm ready for some international spearing expeditions! Now if I could just get some time off of work!

  • Hey John, the vis and the sea conditions around Trinidad are not good at this time cause our rainy season has just ended so waters from our rivers and Venezuela's are still hanging around. Your best bet will be Tobago, our smaller island, with the SeaHunt team of Brian and Richard Parkinson. Contact them and they'll give u all the info u need. Tinu also dives with them. In advance, Welcome to Trinidad and Tobago, be safe and i hope u go back home with some great pics and memories!
