Beautiful fish. It looks exactly like the "Pargo" we get in Baja on the Pacific Side and Sea of Cortez. Are they the same fish?

Are they the same fish?
on the pacific side: "lutjanus novel fasciatus"/ pacific dog snapper-cuberson the atalntic side: "lutjanus cyanopterus"/ cuban snapper- cubera
cubera are bigger on the atlantic side...
2 pics of the different fish, one was take in Baja by my friend R Yazbeck -

Nice fish even nicer dive. How deep was that? And how far off the bottom was that cubera?

Very nice fish AND very impressive dive sir. Thanks for sharing and congratulations

Your a frigging mad man!! :thumbsup2:
-
Very nice Marco. You're good badehh

That was a 80' dive and the fish was like 8 feet from the bottom. As Virgili said, they're different species. As per the videos I've seen, Pacific side behave totally differnt than Atlantic.
Thanks for your comments.

I have dreams where I dive like that and shoot fish like that. The viz is better in my dreams but besides that spot on. Nice stuff :thumbsup2:

I was thinking the same thing. Although with better vis that wise old snapper has a better chance of escaping

Impossible is nothing! You're young and go diving often. What else can you ask for?
With a couple tips for sure you can dive better than me and fish like that are around. You're doing the right thing, that is spending time in the water.
Nice fish will come for sure.

Marco is right. Even I get lucky now and then. And sometimes those bigger Cuberas aren't so wary. A few of the bigger ones I got just looked at me like….."what, I owe you money"?….:D

Like Hank said - I've had some pretty big ones just come up to me in a couple of spots I hit when I return to dive in Panama. Truth is, I tend to pass more often than not - they WILL bend your shaft or worse and when I'm in Panama I don't have many spares. Getting rarer now, but 100 pounders have been taken by freedivers in Panama but my PB was around 80 pounds a long long time ago. Now if they are out in the open and under 50 lbs - maybe
But I never saw one spearfishing in Florida that was more than 10-15 pounds but they must be there somewhere.
