My buddies are out of town and Franco has a cold, so Alessandro (12) and I went out spearfishing. The deal was that we would go first to one of my deep spots and then I would take him to a shallow reef so he could take some pan sized fish.
As soon as we hit the water, I see a couple wahoos swim by but I was unloaded and they left. I do a couple deep dives but there's no one down there. So I tell Ale to pick up our gear and move to another spot where wahoos like to gather. He complained because the deal was to go to the reef, but I convinced him to spend half an hour and let me do a couple of deep dives on that spot.
I dropped the flashers and chummed with sardines but no wahoos showed up so I decided to go deep to see if there's any fish in the wreck.
I shot a jack (always happens!) and when ascending I got circled by a school of 10-15 wahoos. As soon as I take my head out of the water, I heard Ale screaming: PA! TENGO UN PETOOOOO! He shot this fish with a 70 cm RA!
I coached him to let it run and to retrieve it when it stops and after 15 LOOOOONG minutes finally we see it. I dove down, placed a second shot and swam up with the biggest smile of all my life. I don't know who was happier. ...
Ale's screams could be heard miles away. That's going to be a day we will never forget.
