  • seaweed---great, thanks for posting, it was a beautiful day. Glad you got a bug. How big was it please?

We didn't get into the water till aprox. 0930 and the conditions were about the same for us at Vista Park.
I stayed till 430. The viz increased to aprox 45f in 30fsw and the seas got up to about 1.5f.

Other spearos got some fish. I got a 16, 18, and 19in hogs and a 14in trigger. I shot the trigger off my new chum bag I rigged up on my anchor line= works great:)

Hope the other spearos will come on and post their stories.
I'm going to try to post a couple pic of todays fish.

  • It wasnt that big. Although we found one hole with 4 nice lobsters, as soon as they saw us they shuffled single file into a small hole in the rear.

Happiness is putting on a wetsuit still wet from the last time you went diving [yesterday]:thumbsup2:
Any and all spearos are welcome to join us. Bring your float, boogy board or yak. We do not discriminate.:D

seas 1.5f in 40fsw---------------------3f and building:(
    air 68deg PC----------------------------76deg cloudy

waited on the beach 1 hour for the other spearos. South wind and South current meant for some fast drift diving and slow getting back into the wind. Lots of fish on the reef, saw 4-5 jellies, seas were building fast=not an easy day yak/freedivin. Got 1 14in trigger and had a 21in hog make his last mistake by turning sideways to look at me:D=1 trigger and 1 hog today.

  • Thanks Hau. Hopefully I'll actually get off my A$$ and join you guys soon.

  • TurboRon--no worries, whenever you are ready just let me know.

Don't tell anyone, but man am I glad this weather turned to crap. My gear needs fixin, I am sore from divin almost every day, my freezer is so full of fish I cannot make ice, my laundry needs done and my room is a mess:D
Yesterday I went out to Dania and got one of the nicest hogs I've gotten up here. He went 21in and was a beautiful color-at least until he made his last mistake in life by turning sideways to look at me. 60in of 7.5mm RA spring steel changed his color quick. I resurfaced from 40fsw and pulled him up quick enough to explode his bladder and to keep a nurse shark from getting him. No worries of him tearing off with my RA slip tube deployed through him. What a nice reasurring feeling knowing all my fish cannot tear off again. I will never go back to using a flopper shaft:)
Got my ass kicked in the rough seas and high wind and had to yak back to the beach straight into the wind. Saw a yak and dive flag on the first reef by the pier and went over to see. It was flamencoguru with his camera man. The camera man was on scuba and was exhausted in the water fighting the seas and current with all that scuba gear and camera gear:0 I escorted them back to the beach and we talked yak/spearin till we got our gear/yaks loaded up to leave. Flamencoguru uses a RA 100 with no reel. The viz was great.

  • pargo--thank you- I love spearin and just being in the water. Every dive is a good dive for me, even if I get no fish. Just being out there recharges my spirit. I couldn't feel the same if I had to buy boat gas, tags, boat gear, etc. for 1 hour in the water like yesterday for 2 fish.

yes, the camera would be nice. I use my iphone now to take pic but of course the iphone as a camera is very limited and I have to take it out of its drypk:nono: to take a picture. Does your camera with housing float? The reason I ask is that I want more floatation on my RA130. I want to start carrying a spare shaft on the gun. The last several dives I could have gotten many more shots but I was busy taking fish off my shaft, rewrapping line, etc. Of course a spare shaft will make my gun sink [not good freediving] and I do not want to use a float line and I was hoping that the camera/housing would add enough to float the gun with a spare shaft. What do you think?

  • I wasn't implying that you should stick the camera on the gun. I would find that a hindrance. I'd only put it on if my whole objective was to shoot a video of a speared fish. I was just saying since you contribute so much to the forum some pics of the catch would be very very cool. I believe my camera in its case does float.

  • pargo--thank you for the compliments. Yes I agree that the cmaera on the gun will be a hassle but I was hoping that the added floatation to the gun could be justified to enable me to carry another shaft on the gun. Thank you for your help.

TurboRon--I'm not good with this computer thing but I will try to post a picture of the RA slip tube.
