Mares Cyrano HFT pneumatic speargun no longer in production?

  • Dear Members,

I was searching for Mares Cyrano HFT (90-100cm), but it is out of stock in all places. Even Official Mares web site does not list it anymore.

Is this model no longer in production ?

Anyone can shed some light on this, would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

    Cheers !

  • Yes the Mares Cyrano HFT pneumatic speargun is discontinued. While aesthetically it was a very nice pneumatic speargun, functionality wise it was no different than a more standard looking compressed air powered speargun.

As an alternative consider the Seac Asso it's a very nice pneumatic speargun. Powerful, accurate, a reliable work horse, it's been around for many years. At a very affordable price, an updated look and all the right lengths; power/range configurations, the Seac Asso (Ace in Italian) is a no brainer for air gun fans https://spearfishing.store/seac-asso-pneumatic-speargun-cr It would be my choice for a good looking, functional, no-frills pneumatic speargun.

  • The hydro-formed tanks were a hassle as you have to have a special tank made for each gun size rather than chop off a length of tubing for each particular gun size. Mares have just gone back to cylindrical tanks on their pneumatic guns, so they still make them. The hydro-formed tank era started with the Omer Airbalete, but these guns have now crashed and burned as Omer quit making pneumatic guns and I expect the hydro-formed tank craze will soon be over.

  • US Divers, which changed its name to Aqualung, took over Omer after a number of earlier changes in its ownership, and them having discarded spearfishing decades ago it seemed a strange choice for Aqualung to return to the sport now. With China getting into the manufacturing of spearguns, which like their cars were not much good at first, they have now embarked on making better equipment. Their lower manufacturing costs and large production runs make them a tough competitor to beat. They have already worked over the watch industry selling equivalent watches for fractions of the price, the traditional watchmakers relying on brand snobbery and reputation to stay in the game.

  • It was an inexplicable move for Aqualung. Maybe they just got OMER and Sporasub for a price that allowed them to run it without much further investment until it was no longer viable, and then the value of the assets.
