Even though this guy targets fish that would be scoffed at in the US like Blowfish and Moray eel, he makes an honest attempt to consume everything he spears so I respect it. Looks to be experienced at spearfishing too. Click the caption button in the youtube video to get the translation, it's worth it as he's quite articulate..

Diving from Fort Lauderdale beach I found a Queen Conch, which is kinda rare in this area. It was lying on the bottom upside down, the pink shell stood out against the reef background. Live Queen Conch may not be harvested https://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/sea-shells/. As this one was lying upside down I assumed it was dead and collected it. When I got home and washed it out the partially decomposed animal flushed out, so it was indeed dead when I collected it. But it made me wonder why it died. I entertained the possibility that it was turned upside down, couldn't right itself and died, as there was no damage to the shell. I thought it unlikely though because being turned upside down must happen sometimes to these animals and nature must have given them a way to get out of that situation. So I did a search on this and was amazed at just how capable this animal is of righting itself.
BTW while searching for a pic I was surprised to find Conch shells for sale on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Nautica…ma-Seashell/dp/B01GEJ6QDK . For this money the conch must come under a lot of pressure. I don't like it.

Yes it is rather retro. Makes me think of Nautilus/Capt Nemo.

Looks like a bad trigger guard design. Getting a finger on the trigger with gloves on will be like threading a needle.

You make it sound so sad

I came to the same conclusion as you about Chinese manufacturing in general. But when they get it dialed in they can make good stuff. Fortunately for me the Chinese know nothing about spearfishing.. yet. And I think they won't learn because spearfishing/freediving is relatively too small a market. Problem arises when someone teaches them. Problem for everyone, because then they turn around and sell to anyone, causing a price war devaluing the products, and creating consumer distrust in other better made products. Because the consumer can't tell the difference until it's too late. That's why the only way is to trust brand names, and that's what it's all about really. Although I got to say, even brand names are susceptible to producing crap sometimes. All it takes is for one small detail to be off.. like you said. It always does amaze me how companies with big purchasing power and resources can and do screw up like this. I believe it's because of being under pressure to bring a product to market too fast.

Salvimar was one of the first to do this, but as they evolved from a components supplier to many other brands they realised the importance of doing the actual manufacturing.
Salvimar makes crap. So that goes a little against your premise

To clear up any doubt about whether these are the Seac pneumatic spearguns. Seac updated the Asso model two years ago. This is what it looks like now, available from Spearfishing Store Seac Asso CR Speargun. I wouldn't mess with the Chinese pneumatic speargun you'd asking for trouble. Too bad as it had potential.

Interesting video.

It looks so easy when you stone a fish like this, but is not.
What's the hard part?

Mares won't stop manufacturing pneumatics.
They already have a few. Cyrano 1.1, Sten and Jet continue. Cyrano 1.1 HFT and Cyrano 1.3 discontinued. Cyrano 1.1 HFT was the nicest pneumatic ever IMO.
