HOLY FISH BALLS!!Man that was freaking awesome... the lot of you need your ****ing heads examined though!!:@:@
Your buddy is the real deal, only going for head shots in that environment, and breaking the fish as hard as he could whenever he shot, better the fish tear off and live again than to feed the sharks for no reason... RESPECT! -
Some of my best spearfishing buddies are RAVING about these poles and smashing records with um... worth a hard look. Neritic pole spears.
My pole was custom built by John of linghunt polespears... its a beast!! and sooooo versatile. Check him out, problem with him is he is always got a back log since he is the best -

i agree on the 14 mm, small id bands.
The shorter single wrap kind of makes sense…but if it's a good size fish, it's going to run out line on your reel anyway unless you stone it. I don't see a disadvantage with single wrap though. And i have shot a few good size fish farther away shooting down on them from a ledge. But we have great vis in belize.
And a float line is simpler but i had more fish hole up on my using that but i was using a breakaway. I couldn't grab the floatline quick enough and had fish hole up deep.
With a reel, if the fish starts to run, you can slow it a bit holding the line as it comes off the reel.I'm not arguing with you marco….just thinking…..sitting in this damn hotel in ho chi minh…..wishing i was diving….:(
yup yup and yup :d

110 cm, single wrap.
I like 2 x 14 mm better than 2 x 16 mm. Both brands are good. Float & floatline if you're a beginer. Easier to use.
Dive safe.

couple of months ago a guide was taking a few people through a marine protected area(pacific somewhere), a blue about 20 lbs attacked and killed one of the snorkelers.... yeah dat happened

Nice one bruddah! El Marco is back :thumbsup2:

Welcome, lot less dangerous in the ocean than what you described..lol

Always scary to hear about a new invasive species no matter how tasty. Would love to whack one!
Hank I bet the pelagic spearing will be just fine even if nearshore is f@$ked -
Well George,
Went today and didnt see any Cuda or Amberjack. But, i did see some Sheephead and a Mangrove!
Didnt have any problem shooting them for a family fish fry today. Just got thru eating fried Mangrove with Gouda Cheese Grits.
After all, you cant fry Wahoo.
Wow! That's fantastic! -
Happy birthday Don!
-
Don it's amazing when you talk story my friend, to have done only 10% of what you have brother!

They had 3/8" shafts too. Definitely looked cumbersome, but i will have to admit that Ced landed more fish than me.
That had more to do with his speed in subduing the fish before they were taken by sharks though.
I believe that given the same band thickness, number, and rubber strech distance, the 5/16" shaft has more kinetic energy than the 3/8" due to it traveling faster. Couldnt prove that though without an underwater chronograph.
I love the Koah, thanks for suggesting it. handles good, shoots where you point it. Took little getting used to.
Like the Mori slip tip also. shoots straight, and you cant say that for most slip tips.
The 3/8 become really useful when shooting tuna, tuna go through a lot of 5/16 shafts [emoji6] . I would not recommend big shafts for wahoo due to the softness of their flesh, you are not worried about penetrative power with wahoo or it making spaghetti of your shaft. BUT in shark infested waters MAYBE something to be said of a large shaft stunning the fish or doing more damage to allow quick recovery.
Experience matters huge in wahoo, having the experience to know where to shoot and when you can horse the ho verses letting it run. You will be a boss next trip, not that you weren't shooting 5! -
hamanahamanahamanah….wow…..i..you….wha….she…holy shit. :thumbsup2:
 what he said!!!!!!

Got another picture sent to me today.
This was the total catch for 4 divers, 2 days offshore
Did you have a good laugh at the guys with the huge wings on their guns while you swung your koah through the water? I would have had a good laugh...:D

If you go up to 7.5 mm shaft, I would go down 10 cm in lenght. Aiming will be different and your first 4-5 shots will be kind of high, but then you will get used to it and your gun will handle better as it will be 10 cm shorter.
If you stay with the same lenght, your gun will be too nose heavy and not nice to carry for long time periods.
However, for longer shots, you will need a longer gun. That's what they are for.
Keep your spear tip very sharp. That helps A LOT in penetration matter.
Dude I love when you talk gun porn!!
I would add one simple tip, lots of guns are now going thicker shafts that previously could not or would not, the reason you ask? The ability to put on the small inner diameter rubbers allows you to power the heavier shafts without having to add another rubber to your set up, and no big increase in recoil! Get some small id rubber bro if you dont have already, i actually went down to 14 mm verses my old 16mm -
The quality of fish there! If there were no sharks I wonder what the dock would have looked like?
