I'm interested to see what that's about. I heard a while back that there's a Russian mod that reduces the amount of sound produced when firing a pneumatic and I'm wondering if this is it. Please send me the catalog, I'll pm you my email.

There are some modifications on that site that are nulled by mine. Another that I commented on that's BS. Apart from those there are quite a few. Can you narrow down which one you're interested in?

I would like to learn information on fish movement. What I mean by this is patterns of behavior that fish have which cause them to be in one place at one time and another place in a later time. It's a mystery to me why I can go to a spot and it can be full of fish and then devoid of life on the next dive. I'm not talking about obvious cycles like spawning months. I'll give an example.

Since the weather is bad, I'm out of fish and the urge to capture something is starting to make me crazy, I went to a shallow spot yesterday where I'm usually guaranteed a few barracuda. I went late, got in the water around 5pm. There was no fish around. This was frustrating and I tried to figure out why. I reasoned that the previous times I've been there was always earlier in the day. So I decided to confirm whether time of day was the factor. I went there again this morning and the result was the same. I went without a speargun just to see if my idea was correct and then I'd add this to the fish sense library in my head. I was wrong and no conclusion could be made as to the reason why the fish are gone. Logical would be to associate the scarcity with the weather conditions, turbulent water due to the storm and bad viz.

I'd like some tid bits from you guys, things that you've come to realize about fish movement through a particular personal experience, this kind of thing stays with you forever and is very valuable. I realize this is asking a lot because really this is what spearfishing is all about. Finding a fish is first, sticking a spear in it is secondary.

Love it! I've thought for a long time of attaching the shooting line to the shaft like that on a pneumatic. I use this system on a sling.

I think it should be OK for short range in terms of accuracy. As far as the system for keeping the water out could you please explain what is going on in your pictures?

Marco, the reason I didn't suggest the loops is because I didn't think that knot would hold the thin dyneema. I also didn't think the thicker cord would fit well in the notches. I use that system on my tabbed shafts.

Some people have had problems with them due to degradation of the material as evident by their posts. The latest being Keyskiller on SB which is where I got the pic. Stainless steel mechs are hassle free once properly made. Customer service is not an issue, I don't even want to be bothered thinking about the mech once it's in the gun.

Why delete it, I posted some good information on how to analyze what the problem could be and it would be good to be able to refer to it at a later time. If you resolve the problem with Daryl's help just post back and it's good for everybody.

    Beauty.

My experience in Cuba has been that when the coast has tall cliffs like that the drop off is very close, 50 to 100 meters from shore. Is this how it is in PR?

    En Cuba:
Pez de Perro - Don't have a clue as to the origin of the name.
Pico de Pato - Duck's beak, obvious reasoning.

    In US:
    Hogfish
Hog Snapper - Which is why some people erroneously think it's in the snapper family.

Speaking of names I've come to the conclusion that a few fish names, in the US, where originated for marketing purposes. For example in the case of calling a hogfish hog snapper. It makes selling the fish easier. If a person is thinking of buying a fish but doesn't recognize it and asks what it is if you say hogfish they'll raise their eyebrows. If they hear the word snapper they're all good. I haven't seen barracuda sold anywhere but I heard that it's marketed somewhere as saltwater Pike.

You do realize that they are single use? In this case why would you prefer a .223 to the much more powerful AK47 round? In the near future I will stock quality Beco style reloadable power heads at a better price than Beco. These ones will take .357 and .223 rounds. But I don't recommend them for shark defense which is what the ones in this thread are for.

For sure that the hunter's body language affects the fish. I do whatever I can to not appear threatening controlling my extremities, finning slowly, using a mirrored lens mask etc. But you shouldn't discount what I'm saying here. Some very experienced spearfishers, more consistent producers than you or I and experienced in other places of the world where fish are sketchier than in SE Florida, have said that fish don't like the float line.

TM, Polypropylene rope is very cheap. I'd settle for it lasting a 1/3 of the time if it would mean it's going to be less visible by fish. It is clearly identifiable when the rope starts to degrade.

Davie, A visible float line is like a moving wall to a fish. It blocks off a whole direction for the fish. I believe it is part of the reason fish always escape directly away from us. When I say this keep in mind I always used a float line so I don't know how they react to you guys without one. If you can't see the logic in that consider why H&L use clear mono.

Felix, I currently use a Rob Allen orange line. A few months ago I did a comparison of the RA to a regular polypropylene clothes line by separating the braids down to the individual strands and counting them. There is no difference. Well, except for price.

Float lines scare fish. Apart from which color is least visible in the water which is what I want to know, is it possible to have a transparent polypropylene rope? If mono can be clear why not polypropylene rope?

One solution is to use the clear tubing, the same as they use for the fancy float lines. But it's cumbersome to work with and besides i don't know how transparent it really is.

Don't worry, I'm not so good that if I go to live there I leave no fish for you :D I want to live in Cuba but it's not possible for me and many others because of the regime. PR is maybe next best thing and I think about it sometimes. I like simple lifestyle as long as there's a tourist industry.

I understand what you mean about the float line. I was asking questions before on which color for float line is least visible in the water. Maybe you can tell me? I always dive with float line and I consider it a toss up between these two factors; not having to worry about losing my gun to a fish versus being able to get closer due to no float line.
