Thank you all for the warm welcome.

welcome and good approach....learn what you can then learn more in the water...do you know anyone in your area with some experience you could dive with...that makes the biggest difference.

Sadly, not yet. There are quite a few people in my county that go out diving / spearing, but most of them go from boats and Im too cheap to do that.

I did get an offer to hang with / learn from a local spearer and I plan on taking him up on the offer. Thing is, I believe he scubas / rebreaths, but not freedives. Ill still learn if I get the chance.

What I think I'm going to do is order a few 72" 17-4 PH rods and see how they work. I might also get a 4-5 foot section of 5/16th 316 if only to prove to myself that if doesn't work. I still need to get the floppers though, Florida Freedivers?

I can not PM you for some reason so Ill ask here.
Did you ever end up getting / trying these shafts?
I looked through your newer posts and didnt see them mentioned.

    I have a few questions...
Why is there a notch in the shaft where the line is? Did it come like that?

How long of a shooting line do you have between the shaft and the sling?

What do you do to keep the line out of the way / free from entanglements while descending, loading and firing?

My post is from a month ago. A couple of weeks ago I went to sports authority and this little yak was on sale for $99 right by the front door. When I bought my new speedos I got a $25 off coupon on any $100 purchase. So I bought the yak and a piece of gum and it ended up costing me $80. I keep wanting to rig it but haven't found the time so it's sitting in my garage.

Have you taken a chance to get this out on the water yet?

    Hello.

Im new to freediving and spearfishing. I havent been in the ocean in years but used to snorkel as a child.
Im currently reading up on all the aspects of it before I head out. Ill be shore diving from Venice, sometimes with a float, sometimes without.
Ive already learned a lot and am grateful for the chance.

    Good day.
