I watched this the other night. I cannot help but relate this science to one reason so many of us spend so much time in the water.

"three piece taco maker" Great Quote! That pole came out really nice. Some effort and skill goes a long ways. Nice work

I have a 1/4" roundover that I planned to use but it doesnt fit in the 9/16" slot. I am hoping to do it something like this now:http://i268.photobucket.com/al…football86/slotrelief.jpg
Yes, hand contour it to your liking. You can use all sorts of tools. Files, 60 grit paper, a dremel with an egg shaped carbide burr, chisels. I enjoy that part of building the most.

That is no joke..a diver in La Jolla found a dead young dolphin with a bite out of the bottom of it yesterday...bite was wide too (elbow to fingertips plus 1 more handlength). Gives me the heebi-geebis
Around 1994 I was walking around main beach area in Laguna at night with some buddies, and we see a bunch of people with flashlights down a waters edge. We walk down, and see a fresh dead seal with most of its body gone. One very large bit, clear as day. The image has never left my mind. Nature is awesome in it's displays of power.

Not vintage judging by the trigger mech but a rustic bamboo speargun.

That is so cool! I bought some bamboo several months ago in hopes of building a hybrid with it.

excellent...and quite a hairy encounter.
a ticked off bull is a bad boy
I don't have any experience with sharks. Hearing the account on the phone was scary. An 8' bull, closing in with 10' circles. Biting his fin with fish in hand, then biting the other divers gun, then still getting the fish in the boat.

Just got off the phone with Cam. He has never shot an enclosed track before, and says he is shooting snapper in the eye at 15'. So it appears accuracy is good. The track seems to be a little tight to get the shaft in, so I may open it up some more in the front. We need to distribute a few ounces of ballast to the nose/mid for better balance. Nose is a little floaty. It required 11 ounces, and I ran out of places to hide it, so the handle is carrying 6 ounces right now.

Awesome looking gun overall, and the handle in particular is really impressive. How did you fasten the handle to the blank? Screws from the top of the gun? Any pics of the handle before it was installed?
Two pins from the sides. Remote trigger is pinned in the housing prior to dropping into the pocket.

wild! tell me more about that handle. very cool!

First Blood! Looks like it can kill a fish, even with a green handle. The is Cameron Dietrich in Key West today.

This is Jesse Anderson's account of events, I just pasted from facebook:
"Ok, so Cameron shot this beast at the same spot where I got owned by my bull shark. Result? The fish rocks up under a 40 foot ledge, and I jump in to lend a hand. Our good friend is already there circling the scene, as Cam dives down to wrestle the fish out of the cave. Meanwhile I've got to dive down behind and get in between Cam, the fish, and the bull shark, as it circles tighter and tighter. Usually a shark will back off once you hit it in the head once or twice, but this one was all jazzed up and after the second crack to the head it came up after me and bit my gun. Frack. Meanwhile Cam's got the fish out by now, and as we're swimming up the bull charges up under Cam, fish in hand, and opens its mouth to bite his fin. At the point I'm like "screw this we're gonna get eaten", so I'm contemplating shooting the shark but I know that will just be a total shit show, as I'd probably lose my gear and attract other sharks and be in a real mess. So I aim my gun just over his head and fire, the shark takes off like a bullet, an gives us just enought time to scramble into the boat. Think we're done for the day."

It's kind of funny how exciting Morel mushroom hunting is. Tried it once in Idaho, yelling and screaming the entire time up and down a steep hill. A rather excellent time with a large group.

that's a fat bass man. Sweet!
