Every time I read one of these articles I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

For those of you that have not been ab diving on the north coast- even in some of the most common ab dive spots like Fort Ross, Timber Cove, and Caspar Cove, I would guess that around 10% of the rock surface between 15ft and 25ft is covered by an abalone. Abundant doesn't seem like a strong enough word.

Lobster are hard to find, scallops are hard to find, lingcod, halibut, white seabass and yellowtail are hard to find. Abalone are not even remotely hard to find up here.

And yes, well-intentioned laws that are meant to prevent poaching are enforced to the letter against divers taking their 1-3 abalone per day. It's truly a puzzling situation in my opinion.

If you're ever interested in doing some mushroom hunting, come on up and we'll show you around. There's particularly great king hunting in late November-late December.

No joke. Every dive its all "go go go go go" until he shoots a red and then its calm and relaxed. Haha.

You're confusing calm and relaxed with too cold to function.

    Hi all,

I'm a complete spearfishing nut. I live in San Bruno with my brother Carter, who is also a spearfishing nut. We mostly dive Monterey, Big Sur, and Mendocino, but make annual trips down to the islands and northern Baja. I'm also looking forward to trips to Bali and Hawaii this year.

I've been pretty active on spearboard for a few years. Today a kid posted a video of hacking up perch with an axe, and I decided it was time to find a new forum. I love seeing people's photos, so here are a few of mine.

I have an unhealthy obsession with vermilion rockfish:

In the last couple years, a good buddy has been showing me the ways of mushroom hunting and other foraging:

Last year I built a speargun:
