special feature of your friend's home made pneumatic
a 7mm home made shaft
less power than a mares or a cressi 100cm I have been using for years in the Med sea
noisy++ and about 8 feet range
but it works if you get pretty close to the fish!
obviously efficient in the cave hunting (grouper++)QuoteGo Canada hockey team
US team seems to me formidable!2 video:

I did go out a couple of times on a catamaran.
I did it several times on the north east coast and often got problems with cuban coast guards and one of my best friend lost his job after we have been caught there...
I have been using for years an old italian sportfishing boat in the Archpielago de los Canarreos rented in a marina and wich allowes me boating wherever I want to go diving.
I never asked for a licence, all my colleagues have it despite it is pretty expensive for a local.
So many stories to tell about this wonderfull archipelago (Cuba is not an island is'nt it?);)
I met there the best spearos: they are gifted with an incredible sense of the fish...:thumbsup2: for example amazing their ability in spotting a hidden fish at 90ft depth from the surface...
I invited for a free entry one of my collleague and friend "El Chino" to the 1st C Rica BWH Open 2009, unfortunaly he never got the authorization to leave the country:(
will try again in 2010! -
I'm native from the French Riviera... and I began spearing as a little boy!
Spearfishing practice began there in the early thirties
Almost "modern" technics used by spearos were improvised and improved by local South of France spearos
the first american book writen by a US spearo was by Guy Gilpatric in 1934: " The Complete Goggler", at the time he stayed on the french Riviera and observed french colleagues there. -

I wanna go to Cuba! You think an US Veteran of 23 years would be let in?
As a US citizen the best way is by taking off from Montreal or from Mexico or San jose
cuban authorities/ custom do not stamp the passport...
I usually bring my french passport.
Officially spearfishing is not allowed for the non resident in Cuba and fines are severe if they catch you... unofficially you have first to get reliable connections there by swimming among a "buraucratic" system:
friendship works better than tips or baksheesh.
If you make it, bring stuff to your colleagues spearo: they are short of everything!
some pic taken there -
