We don't have salmon in Manitoba, but Pike, walleye and most fish are legal to hunt. Bass and trout are not, I don't believe Muskie are either, but we don't have many lakes with Muskie in Manitoba. None of these are legal with scuba gear, free diving only. You can use scuba for certain 'rough' fish. I have in the past focused mainly on walleye and pike. Most of the areas I frequent have healthy populations of these two.

I'm in Manitoba, smack dab in the centre of the country. Far from the saltwater, but I get down to Mexico in the winter for a couple of weeks at least. There is some phenomenal spearing close to home though and a few lakes clear enough to bother scuba diving in.

I'm a relative newcomer to spearfishing. As a kid I used to swim alongside my Uncle as he speared walleye here in Canada. I had some opportunity to spear myself, both with pole spears and an old single band smaller gun. I am an avid scuba and free diver and happened upon a gently used Scubapro Panther at a garage sale and decided to get into the sport again now as I am older. I came to this site as a way to get as much information as I can and as a way to pass the time until I get out. We are doing a trip to one of the local lakes for the upcoming July long weekend for some scuba and also plan on doing spearfishing between dives. Looking forward to trying out my new Henderson 7/8mm semi-dry wetsuit in water I'm told is just now approaching 50 degrees at the surface. Anyway, I look forward to learning from the vast experience a board like this can offer and hopefully sharing some great stories of my own in the future.
