Hey everyone. My name is Stephen and I'm new here. I started diving in Palos Verdes under the tutelage of the halibut whisperer ladvr some time in 2008. He taught me to respect the resource, the life you take, and your own life as you risk it. On my first day of diving he gave me a face to face intro to a local halibut but made me promise not to shoot it with my JBL pole spear. On the surface he asked me what the legal length for a halibut was and when I answered him correctly he then asked if I thought this one was legal. It wasn't and I answered correctly. What followed was a series of informative dives and teaching that I wish every new spearo could have. He taught me to dive without ego and I fell in love with the sport. Thank you ladvr for those formative dives. I have stayed with it as I have moved around SoCal, but I haven't dove as much as I would have liked due to a demanding work schedule and starting a family. I'm getting back in the swing of things and hope to be a meaningful contributor here. Sorry for the lengthy intro but I'd love to meet locals and visitors as they come and dive!
