Ok, I foud them. Get ready....

A good friend's brother was one of the most known "escopeteros" from Havana; "Pomo de leche" was his nick and everything was made from scratch; the pipes, as alecrin said, were made out of stainless steel or titanium (or bronze, or whatever available in the black market), the handles were made out from white polymer (called teflon, but is actually reinforced nylon), the o-rings were also obtained in the black market and the shafts were the most precious part of the guns, since no special/treated steel shafts were common.
I have seen some pictures around, when I find them I'll post here. :;

Don't trust the ants. I've got ciguatera 3 times since I'm living in Puerto Rico. None of those legends is true....
Mi "ciguatest" now is trying a little bit of any "suspicious" fish. I feel the simptoms in about 4 hours... (cagazón, cansancio y picazón en manos y pies). They last one day.
My older son was very sick from ciguatera two years ago with amberjack. Now, I don't take any chances. I got sick with barracuda (the worst and was just a 4 pounder), hogfish (very big one) and King mackerel (huge, 50 pounder).
The curious thing is that other people ate that mackerel without any simptoms, but since I already carry the toxine in my body, I got sick (I'm still sick).
This is the beast, taken by my pal Fernando:
BTW, Schoolmasters are not into the "suspicious" list.

According to my limited experience, incoming tides and "cuarto menguante" moon phase are the best for fishing.

How´s that bro??
Well, the Rob Allen mechanism was faultless, very soft and reliable.
I traded "pelo a pelo" my 120 Tuna for a 130 Carbon Venom. I loved my Rob Allen and was my "all around" gun, but I thought that if I didn't liked the Aimrite, the reselling value would be 100$ higher than the RA and I could buy a new RA and keep money in my pocket...
My first experience was that the bands were cut way too long. No problem at all, I shortened about 2" each. They were 9/16" instead of the 5/8" of the RA. No problem, lets give them a chance...
First day in the water and the gun is really accurate and the power is ok. After two shots... Then it started to misfiring alone! (and my fishing day was over). Wrote to Aimrite, sent the mechanism back to Hawaii and got a new one after a month. Now, I have to check that the shaft is properly inserted any time, because oftenly is not cocked. Additionally, the trigger is harder to pull than the Rob Allen and it takes a while to get used to it. Maybe I end up selling this gun and buying another RA....
On another hand, speaking about "plastics" in general is like saying "metal"; there are many different plastic polymers with many differen properties, as for metals. In my opinion, a good specified plastic is a best cost effective alternative to a metal.
About prices, Dan is right; for what it cost, they sell the guns too expensive. But that is in the USA. Prices of gear are 2 x in the USA compared to Europe (and probably South Africa, speaking about Rob Allen).

Get well soon! Y lo del despojo no te vendría mal del todo....

Benvenuto Giussepi (o Giuseppe?).
Bienvenido Alecrin! Aquí estarás como en tu casa (está lleno de cubanos...).

Some people have had problems with them due to degradation of the material as evident by their posts. The latest being Keyskiller on SB which is where I got the pic. Stainless steel mechs are hassle free once properly made. Customer service is not an issue, I don't even want to be bothered thinking about the mech once it's in the gun.
I think it was a deffecctive batch (could happen to anyone).
Yesterday I used my Aimrite Venom and the more I use it the more I miss my Rob Allen Tuna...

I have a friend that sells barracuda as "Sierra pinta"
Benvenuto Giussepi! :;

If it works well, so what's the problem?
I have to say that I own both a Rob Allen and an Aimrite (last generation, with shiny SS mechanism) and for me, the RA is better and smoothest.
I had to return the AR mech to the factory for replacement since it was shooting alone... :crazy:

I voted Rob Allen railgun. I had a 120 Tuna and just loved it.
I must say that I also have a C3X and An Amirite Venom 130 Carbon.
Rob Allen is the best gun for your money (IMO).

Ok, I found the pics:
No Dan, even better, since you can load the gun in any position and don't have the risk of water getting into the barrel.

You get the idea, don't you?

Those guns were great guns. Out of production for more than 4 years now. Don't overpower it. Most you can do is 3/4" band and 7 mm shaft. If you need more power, that's not the gun for you.
There is a modification you can do with a Dremmel and a file and is to eliminate the threaded sockets in the muzzle and use a circular band as for most american guns.
For the circular bands, there's also an easier/cheaper alternative to what Dan just posted.
I will see if I can find a thread at an Italian forum where they did that.:;

During my early days I used to shoot a 115 Sten gun.
You are right on what you say about SVL modification on the slide ring. I told him that won't work, but it is still on his webpage...
Now there is a guy in Spain that sells a kit that REALLY set the pneumatics one notch above. It consists in a muzzle that prevents the water to get into the barrel, so the problems with heavy nose and water evacuation are eliminated. The only disadvantage is that you can't use the gun for holes since the line is attached like on an Euro shaft, but just ahead the muzzle. I'll try to find the post in another forum and paste it here. Spanish, sorry for the americans, but Dan can translate the most important parts.
On the other hand, every handle can be easily customized using two parts epoxy putty. I've done that with some of my guns and works great!
