I've got some pics of the gun and the wetsuit, still picking up the rest of the stuff i need and still clueless as to how to post them :confused1:

Hey everyone! Everything is finally unpacked and i can get some pictures tomorrow! Been a crazy couple days but it's finally done!

Well guys, it's going by pretty slow, but just passed the halfway mark! NC is now a little over 1300 miles behind me, CA is 1100 mile ahead. Stopped in New Mexico for the night, stopping in Nevada tomorrow and then will be in CA on Monday! Can't wait to upload some pics and get the gun wet!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't gotten any pics up, I am finally starting the drive to California and my car is packed full! This is day 2, so 3 more to go and I promise I'll put some pics up! This cross country drive is killing me:boring1:

Austin is actually the first to get the new Speardiver stealth speargun so pics would be interesting.

I'll try to get some pics up soon! Thought i'd do a little update really quick though. I tried on the Speardiver Predator Wetsuit and it fits perfect! Then, because i couldn't wait any longer, i tried to load it "did not put the wishbone in the notch" and dang that was way harder than anticipated! So my question is, does the band get easier to pull back over time and just needs to be broken in? I was going to go with a 90cm but ended up getting a 110 because i was told i'd probably get a bigger gun later to handle larger fish. I am happy with my decision and if i ever feel like i need a hole gun i'll get an 80 or 90. So, do the bands get easier over time? Thanks!

Hey everyone! Been waiting at the front door all day waiting for my spearfishing gear to get here, scared the usps guy a little bit but oh well! Got my wetsuit, socks and gun from Dan and dang it's some good stuff. While i can't comment on how it shoots yet, but it feels perfect. Gotta get in the ocean and start practicing loading, wanted to try but don't want to out of water. Thanks again Dan!

Dude do yourself a favour and read up on what you plan to be doing... you could hurt yourself or others at the stage of ignorance you are at and just planing to "go for it"

Didn't mean to come off as ignorant, i've just been doing a lot of research in my free time and i can't wait to get in the water. Excitement gets the best of us. To answer your questions i am looking at the Speardiver Predator wetsuit 5mm and plan on diving in the shallower water to begin and slowly start working the deeper kelp beds as i get more comfortable. The reason i asked "Reel or Float Line" is because i want to get something that minimizes tangles in the kelp if a larger fish takes off. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i feel as if i have learned a lot from this site and am in the final stages before purchasing. As soon as the Speardiver Phantom's are back in stock i will be placing my order. Sorry if i came off as ignorant, i'm just here to learn. Thanks again

Hey guys! Just had a couple questions on weight belts! I'm 5"10 and 155 pounds, looking at the Speardiver Predator 5mm wetsuit, and i was wondering how much weight it would be best to use? Just starting out i don't want to push the limits and just want to do closer shore dives, no deeper than 20 feet, but would slowly like to progress to 30-35 so weight for that depth would also be greatly appreciated! I was also wondering, with all the kelp there, would it be best to use a reel or float line? Looking forward to hearing some opinions!!

Hey guys, looking to get a knife and was told titanium is the only way to go for longevity. I bought a stainless steel knife while i was in Florida for a few days, and it rusted after 1 dive. Even after the dive i completely took it apart, soaked in freshwater and then the next day it was covered. But, i found these Promates on sale for $50 instead of $90 and was not willing to pass up such a good deal. Anyone use these? They pretty good? Thanks

Hookin is right. A 90 is OK for SoCal but IMHO a 100 minimum or perhaps a110 would be best since you will need/want larger gun sooner than later. Again, Hookin's comment about dragging any thing through the kelp is a PiTA. A good float line with a small carrot float (or no float) is best for SoCal. Maybe a compromise and 100cm is something to consider. Truth is - one Speargun s never going to fill all your needs.

Edit: had another thought - for SoCal, especially shore diving, get a white or yellow float line for hi vz!

i've kind of been thinking about going with a full size kayak with a compartment for fish, kind of like the banks board has! That would also allow me to rod and reel fish while i take a little water and sandwich break :D Only problem is that i drive a 2013 Genesis Coupe and there are no roof racks.... i'll have to fold down all the seats and have it take up my whole car lol, any ideas for a good, cheap kayak? Thanks!

Some divers consider the red suit ideal, highly visible on the surface, red disappears at depth.

So i've now got the mask/snorkel/fins and i will be ordering a gun, suit, socks, knife, abalone/scallop knife and getting some nylon cord from home depot as a float cord? would that work for a float cord? So now i just need to know what float and what gloves to get. I am now stuck. Any ideas? What do you guys use? Thanks

    Your wetsuit size is M.

If your foot size is 10.5 then you'll need XL or L socks, depending on how snug you like the fit.

Folding knife is not good, takes too long to open in an emergency situation. You may not appreciate this until you try doing it in cold water with thick gloves. A stiletto point is ideal. I prefer the Speardiver Skene knife for its low profile.

Can't thank you, or anyone else here enough. Slowly, but surely compiling my list! Would the predator be a good color? I'm not sure if that would cause me to stick out or anything? Thanks again! Also, i like that skene way more than mine, looks like i've got a new knife

Welcome, lots of marine biologist spearfish. Can't say this enough, read up on dive safety if you are not a proficient free diver before you start hunting fish, best scenario is going out with someone who knows what they are doing.

Been doing a lot of research about it, it's been helping a lot and i haven't even gotten to use it yet! I have gone free diving before, just haven't spearfished while doing so. I currently have a 2:00 static which in my head means i'll have about a minute down under, at least comfortably, i don't want to push the limits. But trust me, i know what you mean by finding someone to dive with, i just need to meet some people out there first

Yeah i already have fins/mask/snorkel from a old friend who used to dive so i didn't include that. Also, i will be fishing in SoCal and was told the 90 would be really good, and thank you for the shoe size help, i'm a 10 1/2 so i guess i'll be getting a large! Thanks!

Well, I've been researching for hours and hours over the last couple of weeks and I've finally got a pretty solid list of things i want to purchase to start spearfishing, all help is greatly appreciated!

Wetsuit - Speardiver Predator Spearfishing Wetsuit (not sure what size i need, i'm 5'10 155 pounds so medium seems too small and large seems too large)

Socks - Speardiver Predator Socks (again not sure what size to get)

    Speargun - Speardiver Phantom Speargun 90cm/ 2 16mm bands/ 6.5mm carbon steel

    Gloves - Not sure

Float - 1 of the following: Banks Board/Kayak Kaddy/ DIY Boogie board

Knife - Not sure if there is a certain one that's better? was going to use a Tanto styles folding pocket knife

And of course a GoPro Hero4 Silver

Looking for any suggestions! Definitely need gloves, everyone's reviews on this gear set up and which float would be best, as well as a good brand for float line? Trying not to break the break on float line so i'm trying to keep that more inexpensive. Thanks!
