My deepest condolences to his wife, family and close friends like you chief. A sad day for sure as it was on the local news Friday evening along with the two teenagers missing at sea.

Dan, if you start seeing liquid under the skin you might want to rethink the trip to the doctor. In some cases the toxins act like some snake venoms and can damage tissue. If you think I trying to scare you the answer is yes. No time to screw around. :nono:

Dan, I've been following the thread and it seems the condition has worsened. I strongly recommend seeing a doctor or going to urgent care at this point. If you have the sensation of the skin wanting to burst, the underlying dermis is highly inflamed. At this point I suggest medical attention to avoid any complications. I had a similar situation many years ago (15+) and tried the over the counter stuff with little help. My sister who is a nurse set me straight and sent me to my doctor who administered two shots (injections). I do not recall the other but on was a tetinus shot. Hope you feel better soon.

I can only present my point of view and stress safety., safety, safety!!! How many videos we see where a diver has a camera mounted to the gun and points it in the direction of the diver taking the shot. Then we give the video a thumbs up. As you said earlier, let's be open and hold others accountable when they affect our sport.

As a Florida based diver and spearo, I'm sure the folk lobbying for the banning of this sport and possession of a speargun will use the statements on this forum to strengthen their case. Every city along Florida's east coast has some sort of city ordinance that addresses possession, operation and places where they are not allowed. I know the rules and laws are different in other parts of the country and world but I have to live by the ones that govern my sport here. This is an international forum and I understand the variations in legal implications and product liability. Let's not give others the wrong impression here. We all know safety come first however we practice it.

Marco, I would never modify or disable a safety device on a speargun. With proper care and inspection they work well for me. I agree with awareness and never pointing a spear at anyone but your choice to remove a safety device is one I won't support. Most guns when they misfire are due to poor care, trigger wear and over powering of the gun with high loading rubber. Put yourself in a similar situation like the one we are discussing here and explain to the authorities that you removed the safety to allow you the best chance of shooting the fish of a lifetime. I'm surely missing something here. Just my two cents!!!

Dan, I agree with your approach. This is not only depressing but annoying for me!! I taught my son to dive and spearfish and stress on every dive the importance of muzzle direction. His friend to whom I've also brought the joys of spear fishing gets the same briefing when we all dive together. First rule - safety ON when loading and loaded; Second rule - finger on trigger only when you are ready to shoot!!! Third rule - only shoot when you have a clear view of the fish and beyond!!!

I hope we all take this as a wake up call to draw attention to others who may not be as focused on what they are doing during dives. Let's all be safe and not add to stories like this...... Truly a sad day for our sport...

    Dan,
How do I get to the video section on the site to post the shirt clip I have. I'm om my tablet and can't seem to find the link on the forum home page. I will try from my iPhone later if that makes it any easier. Any suggestions?

Went fishing last Friday with a friend offshore Fort Lauderdale and encountered a young Great White shark feeding on the remains of a Sword Fish. I like to dive blue water as often as I can but this got me rethinking my dive plan when I'm out with my son.:@ The pics are not the best but I have a short video from my phone. I will figure out how to post later today.

    Hey Dan,
It was great meeting you at the dive store today. Will be back with my son to check out some more stuff. The dive light is perfect and very bright for the size unit on three AAAs. Will test it next weekend off Pampano Beach. Looks like I missed this posting on the videos but will check them out on my next trip to the store. Thanks,
    Clavos:thumbsup2:

I just joined the group and would like to welcome you as a fellow south Florida spearo out of Davie. I dive frequently out of Pampano Beach on kayak so keep an eye out for the yellow Malibu Tandem. :thumbsup2:
