Hydroids and upside down jellyfish just feel like a bee sting to me if I kick to heavily. Maybe you bumped into one of these. Only other thing I could think of from my diving in Florida. I saw them, but luckily never brushed one.

Sounds like my experiences with fiberglass on boat repairs when I was younger. Hope you feel better soon.

I don't think there is a way to "minimize" tangles on a big fish in kelp. I think the fish is going to do what it wants. A reel will probably make it easier to swim around without a line. That being said if something messes up on your breakaway or you get a backlash on your reel you will have to let go of your gear. Also, trying to follow your reel line through the kelp will be more visually challenging. I just bought a 120ft high vis yellow skinny gannet float line yesterday. Plan on getting a gannet snake float for it. Kelp carrots don't look bad either. Either one will pass through the kelp without getting caught up. These aren't fish fighting floats as much as a hand hold if the fish takes all your floatline.

These Drones are going to change at lot of aspects of life in general. Time will tell....

I saw one the other day take off and video a house fire. (News Article) Operator was doing fine, but got bored...

He got in close and was screwing with firemen, within range of water hose. They blasted it... :thumbsup2: and now he is bitching for replacement.

Drone operator needed to be spanked and ordered to bring fresh cookies to Fire House every week for a year.

Drones are going to impact All of us, More good than Bad.

I can see a Dive boat having one, send it up to do RECON before Diving. Or a Charter Boat to film and watch over divers.

Born and raised in Newport Beach California. Started talking to Linghunt and Aaron about a spearole that had a locking handle I used locally and for two summers in the Florida Keys along with Andros in the Bahamas many years ago. I spent two summers on Big Pine Key doing oceanography and shark tagging . I have always been an ocean boy. Surfing, boogie boarding ,scuba, snorkeling, long range saltwater fishing. Grew up working at Arts landing and Davey's locket as a deckhand going to Catalina Island everyday. Worked for carl newell making reels. Spent time with lots of saltwater industry people and still see Joe Pfister regularly that ran saber and seeker fishing rods. Anyway after talking with John linghunt I have a spearpole on the way and am looking forward to getting out in the kelp. Nice to meet everyone.
