Well so far between what I've read and what I can remember from my experiences with it (a long time ago) is that is will begin to dissolve in water. I think the biggest concern would be time to set up. It may feel dry shortly but in that type of thickness might take a few days. But if you've got the time....
try picking up some, the smallest quantity you can buy, or come across, and do a small scale trial.
If I come up with anything further I'll let you know. In the mean time, if you get a chance to try it before I do, let me know how it works.

I'm actually looking into it as we speak. I believe it is soluble in that in could be soaked and, being that a tube has two open ends, it could run out. Give me a bit to read up a bit more. I, too have been interested in the idea for use in forming parts out of composites.

    I'll get back to you.

What about plaster? It's inexpensive and would have the advantages of being able to be sanded smooth as well as providing its own stifness while moulding the carbon around it. Of course you'd have to condsider carefully how to release it. But overal might be worth the consideration.

I'd like to know if anyone here has any personal recommendations for freedive instruction in northern California or if there are experienced divers in the area who would be willing to provide an introduction to freediving. I understand that there are certain obvious dangers associated with the sport so I definitely want to seek some sort of professional or expert advice.
I am also wondering what people might recommend in the way of gear to start off with. Especially fins - there seems to be quite the range to choose from. I know that I should begin with something soft -- Omer Winter or Green? Cressi 3000LD? the list goes on. (for what it's worth, what's the practical limit for typical scuba fins?) For the time being I'll use the wetsuit and mask that I use for SCUBA, i know, not ideal, but it will get me going.
Okay, longwinded question, I know. But reading only gets you so far until you ask.

    Thanks,
    Mark.

    Aaron,
LOl. Hey, a Squid on a dive forum, go figure. Nah, just messin' with ya. Nice to see you here. :attack2: I'll try to keep the shooting and blowing up to a bare minimum.:attack2: Regarding knocking it up, well I can't make any promises.

Thanks for the comment, DP. My pleasure.
So far my diving has been mostly variuos beach dives in the Monterey, CA area. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's a great place. Otherwise I've done a little elsewhere vacationing but I live fairly near the Monterey area. Though I'd like to get down to So Cal area, too. I know that there's plenty of freediving going on in CA, I'm just not in that loop yet, which makes it a little hard to get started. In due time, though.

Hi folks. I've been SCUBA diving for about 4 or 5 years now but have had an interest in freediving for at least as long. I live and dive in northern CA. None of my dive buddies are into freediving but I'm ready to take a serious interest. Eventually I'd like to learn to spearfish once I've become comfortable with freediving. So I'd like to hang out on the forum for a while and see what's going on and what you experienced folks have to say.

    Thanks,
    Mark.
