You will probably end up with a variety of shaft sizes depending on conditions and targeted species. Too much overhang in the kelp can be a PITA sometimes.

I use old mono in my weed wacker. Seems to work well. I've also used it as a more permanent zip tie around the house and patching up my Jeep. Was wondering if anyone else has found alternative uses for this stuff.

Welcome mate. First thing I would do is replace the word "properly" in your OP with "safely". Lots of ways to skin the cat in spearfishing. Labeling something as proper or not proper is the basis for many a winter time discussion on the forums.

I agree. Probably a small white. Maybe a hammerhead if there back in the area. She did a good job saving herself and getting rescue.
