Dan I was stupid enough to not have a PH and actually I was going to call you on the drive home to ask if I could come pick some up tomorrow. I was running over the situation again and again in my head and thinking what I could have done differently. I was on my own which was probably the first mistake and now I know I was slightly under prepared. Next time I will try that if I feel comfortable. I did try swimming slightly towards him but just did not have the full confidence that is when he swam off the first time but I knew he was going to come back and it would probably have been from my back.

When I saw him the first time I kept thinking in my head " That's a fucking shark isn't it ", looked like a 5 ft bull shark.

Went out at commercial pier today and swan out to the first reef. Got two nice hog-fish in the ripping current. On the way back in I got my very first visit from the tax man. Saw him off in the distance then he came in closer to check me out, close enough for a shot but I held off, just kept the gun between me an him. The fish were on the float close to me. I keep trying to remember everything I read and heard from other about dealing with sharks.

He swam off into the distance out of visibility I knew he was not through with me. I was hoping he was not trying to get behind me but I knew he wanted my fish and it was time to pay up. My head was on a swivel and just as I was suspected he appeared behind me, I got my fish off the float and dropped then and swam towards shore. While swimming back I saw the shark drop down and grab up the fish. I hauled ass back to shore and at the surf zone I stood up and calmed myself down. That is the story of my first shark encounter.

The psychology of getting in the water, especially deep water takes a lot of anxiety control for a new diver. I remember the first time I went out on a boat I was quietly freaking out even though I had been shore diving avidly at least 3 times a week.

Mike I wanna make a trip back home this summer where in Trinidad can I shore dive... Macrepe or maybe somewhere in Toco.

    FAU Boca Raton Campus.

I have no idea why you would want to dive at one of these sites I would avoid them like the plague. The effluent coming out of those pipes is primary treated wastewater, that means filtering for large debris and about 50% removal of total dissolved solids (bacteria, metals, etc.) and disinfection with chlorine that is it. At the point of dumping you will have the highest concentration of bad shit.... literally.

The things that affect clarity is the turbidity of the water.Turbidity is increased or decreased by the amount of suspended particulate in the water either in the form of sand or algae, most cases I think it is ocean currents coming over the ledges and churning up sand.

    Dan--I don't know.
I was researching ideas on how to better forecast what the water viz in my area might be and came across this video of the "Hollywood Florida Outflow Pipe".
The Hollywood Pipe is just 1 of 4 pipes that I know of in my area. :(
These sewer pipes and the near shore current and the tides waters in and out of the inlets are contributing factors to the viz in my area.
I would like to learn the EXACT locations of these sewer pipes exit ends if anyone has the numbers please.

Hau after I saw this I begin looking diligently for information on these types of outfall sites. The EPA has a plethora of information on there site but it is impossible to navigate and find anything. Then I stumbled on this while looking for information on deep injection wells for school which is one method used to deal with waste water.

The water they inject into wells is actually treated to a high level to avoid contamination of the ground water supply. But the outfall from that pipe does not seem to be well treated at all, but I might be wrong. I did not get to read through it but I hope it helps a little if you have not found anything. As far as I am concerned these sort of things are the closest thing to rape on the environment and I have to admit I was very ignorant to the fact that this level of pollution existed in this area.
