Hey guys, it's been a while since my last post, been busy wasting my life on work. Ever since I moved from Ft Lauderdale to Tampa area, spearfishing became so inconvenient mostly because of the distances and visibility. I recently sold my skiff as it was only an option for skinny water fishing on a flat day. Now I'm stuck between a big boat and a jet ski. And it seems to me that the ski would be the easiest, cheapest, fastest, and absolutely most convenient option for a quick, solo (I know we should never) spearfishing run. Can cover miles and miles of area, easy to tow, cheap to store.
I love the comfort of a big boat but, one kayak salesman once told me, -If it's not convenient, you will not be doing it often. It is a very valid point to me, based on my personal experience.
I really hope we could resurrect this thread, and discuss it once more with all the updates in the past few years. Thanks. -
Does anyone know if simple CO2 vest manually inflated 40 ft under would do the job? Basically, my question is if the vest would inflate normally or it would not work deep underwater?
Thanks. -
I may be 2 new to the community to voice my opinion, what do I know - right?
Any self-bail tool is better than no tool at all. And then use your brain first, your lungs second, and before going to the limit just think about others, waiting for you to get back home in one piece. That should take care of most SWB's (not all). I just don't see buddy system working 100% for spearos, I actually don't even see it working 50%. A few weekends ago I went to spearfish with my friend, we only did +/- 25 ft of water but I didn't see him more than once every 5-10 minutes. Diving down the rope buddy system can work, spearfishing not so much... -
One year old post, but if you still in the area I would totally go for it. Have my own kayak.
-
Get in touch if you still around. I have all my own spearfishing gear. I also have a kayak and a small boat good for 2-3 people on nearly flat seas.

Anyone looking for a dive buddy or any other spearfishing or fishing activities in Tampa Bay area or anywhere on the gulf coast text me to the number on my avatar picture. I have all my own gear.

I like how everyone says don't dive alone, but yet everyone does dive alone most of the time...

FREEDIVER RECOVERY VEST I DiveWise.Org no price posted. :rolleyes1:
Any info on different pricing or alternatives would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. -
I'm sure I want it, just not so sure if I can justify the price, it's definitely a life saver especially if combined with dive buddy. But the price tag is a little bit high, or I'm looking at the wrong website?

I know, we should never dive alone, but unfortunately, my reality is that I dive alone most of the time. Of course, I only go about 2/3 of my known limits and play it as safe as possible. I came across this recovery vest and just want to know what more experienced freedivers think about it? Here is the link to the Youtube. Dive safe :cool2:

Hello forum,
my name is Mike, I just moved to Tampa Bay from Fort Lauderdale. I do most of my spearfishing on FL west coast, South East (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach), and the Keys. I'm fairly new to the level of spearfishing you guys do in Florida, I have done most of mine back in Lithuania's (eastern Europe) fresh water shallow lakes spearing eel, perch and musky.
I love the sport, but still working on my freediving skills. At the time of this post i feel comfortable going down to 25-35 feet and improving daily.
I have joined this forum to learn more about the sport and gather some local knowledge.
I am very interested to meet people in my area to spearfish together. I have all my own gear, a small boat (good for 2-3 people), kayak, time, funds and will to spearfish. I have been turned down before by other spearo's because I cant dive as deep as they can, so if anyone is new and only do shallow - no problem, let's do shallow, and if 25-35 ft put a smile on your face, hit me up, I will do my best to follow you into the deep. I speak Lithuanian, English, Russian and a little bit of Polish. Open for all options. Send me a message and lets get going.
You must be: safe, sane, sober, have your own gear (or willing to get it), responsible, reliable and absolutely no poaching ever.
