Could you guys also share your thoughts on tips? My sons have tried a slip tip and a 3 prong (just a few times each) and think 3 prong is better (but obv don't have enough hunting time to formulate a solid opinion). They also will use to spear lobster in Bahamas (even though they usually just grab them by hand)

Thank you all :) Price range- ideally around $100/pr but now I think that might be too low. Foot width-pretty average, not narrow and def not wide (their body type is lean, overall.. a swimmer as opposed to a football player). Also, a note regarding durability around reefs.. my sons are pretty diligent about buoyancy control and are very careful about not touching corals, so I think durability would come into play more in the boat (a weight dropping on fins, etc).

Looking for freediving fins for my teenage sons but, after days of research, feel more confused than before (see my intro post). (after reading Spearboard I was convinced that Mako competition freediver fins were what I wanted...then I found this forum and realized I need to restart my research). I would appreciate insight/opinions/model suggestions. My sons are 16/17, 6ft/145lbs-ish, athletes, mainly will be freediving to spearfish, around 40ft max, inshore reefs, S. FL and Bahamas, rarely swim long distances- more up/down than distance. They currently SCUBA dive and use open-heel with no problems, but is closed foot better for freediving? I'm also looking for pole spear/sling suggestions (will post on that thread). Budget friendly, but solid value products...they'll stick with this sport, but my budget is tight. Thank you so much for any input!

Possibly looking for sling instead of pole spear.. would appreciate insight/opinions/model suggestions. My sons are 16/17, 6ft/145lbs-ish, athletes, have used pole spears on a few trips (3 prong (?) tip I think) and liked them. They mainly will be free diving, around 40ft max, inshore reefs, S. Hi! I'm in central FL and the mom of 2 teenage boys just getting into freediving/spearfishing. They are experienced watermen (boating/sport fishing/SCUBA) but new to spearfishing and freediving. I want to buy them each a pole spear and freediving fins for Christmas, and just spent 2 days researching that on.. Spearboard.. until I stumbled upon this site and learned more about that one. Now I feel overwhelmed at having to start over again, so hope to gain some unbiased opinions here on solid beginner gear. My kids will be spearing/diving mainly in south FL/Bahamas, not much more than ~40ft, mainly reefs (will be a while before they move up tp pelagic/open water spearing). I'll post my gear questions in the gear forums. Thanks in advance! Also, open to recommendations for additional reputable forums for information on freediving/spearfishing (trip reports, gear, experiences, etc). Thank you!
