Wow great!! thanks a lot guys, i have one rigth here and was looking on how the hell I was supposed to do that and that guy from the vidoe does it naturrally jejeje :rolleyes1: thanks again Dan and Tinu!!!! it seems like i have to break the second line of the spiral in the back rigth?? if not, ill break the shell completely heheheh, but for next cases ill have to learn the right way!!!!

oooooooo thanks DAN, but i think they are fisiologycaly attached to their shell by a muscle and ligaments, the shell grows hith the animal, like our bones, and when it dies the hermit crabs uses the shell as a house!! but ill try that, seems like a good technike!!! they are heavy, really heavy...

Once saw a spotted eagle ray destroing a big one with just its teeth, I wish I could do that...

    Hey:

Does anybody knows when is the Giant snail season (caruccho, lambi, strombus, etc)?? Also Id like to know where exactly it has to becrushed to get to the retractor muscle so I can take it out and eliminate the hassle of carrying its giant shell. there are so many and taste delicious... In past times I boiled them and it got out pretty easy, but cant sell them cause they were cooked, and also had to carry like 15 giant shells to the shore and they get pretty heavy :(

(I really hate to see little ones killed and piled by irresponsible fishermen) just wanted to say that...

man thats a huge mangrove. the biggest i ever got was maybe 5-6 pounds.
i didnt even know they can get that big. and about the water on the lense of your housing, that really pisses me off all the time.
its been i while know that i ve been told there is a spray on the market, once applied on the lense the
water will run off clean as you take the housing of the water. allows clean pics right away.
up to now i never was able to find out where to get that spray. anyone ever heard about it ?

Iv seen it twice, in wallmart and a kiosk in a mall that selled cameras. It is like a liquid wax, perfect for the housing, but cant be used in the mask cause it is eye and skin irritant.

Be careful, they bite too. A big one like that can take off the tip of your finger.

WOW I really didnt knew that Dan... thanks :)

Well the moray eel tried that, almost succeeded. I stilll look at my finger and can see the scarss that the eel's theeth left in my little finger, im really lucky i guess...

Nice fish Jhon!!!!! be carefull with the spill tough, some 2 years ago we had an oil spill where we ussually fish and surf... lots of fish died, the ecoyistem is still recoverying, you can tell just by looking at it... Pretty sad

    Congrats on the catch!!

    hey:

In my last two dives attan, his brother and me encountered 2 lion fish, here in the caribbean, in the Jungla beach at the south of PR. I killed both of them because recently in the news they said that this kind of fish is an invasive one, venemous, doesnt have competition, no animal can eat it and also eats gropuers, yellow snappers, and other fish we really want to hunt (their babies).

So my question is, Are we doing wrong by killing them? i really dont like killing fish that im not gonna eat or sell for surviving (paying debts) :( but we found them really close to the shore where families are swiming and enjoying the day, like 10 m from the shore at 7 feet under water, and also it was behaving like a sea urchin so it couldnt be seen.

I explain, it was in the sand, sorrounded by giant black sea urchins (i Like to appreciate nature also after fishing in my way back to shore and take close looks to every animal and seaweed I can) but couldnt help to notice a sea urchin that had wobbling spines, but pretty similar to the others. So I came closer and barely could see its eye, He changed color to a really black one, i just couldnt believe it, he surely was trying to pass by one of them!!!

Its a shame that such a beautifull fish had to be taken down, but i think it was the bestt thing to do. Also a friend of mine some months ago, found a rock fish near that beach, a pacific ocean specimen, also venemous. guys please take care where you put your hands and/or knees!!!

At first I went Commando, but the rash was always bothering cause of the friction. then i started using licras but didnt like it because with every movemtn of my leg, it went upwards and my "friend" :laughing3: couldnt handle it. So now i use my underware Hanes or FTL, long leg, not briefs but not boxers either, U know...

thanks to all of you!! Im really sorry for not answering earlier, its cause my PC went crazy!!! I will post more photos and videos of me and attan spearfishing here soon (cause he caught a 5 lb spiny lobster yesterday), when i get my camera back. I think it broke cause it was supposed to go only to 30 feet, and I really think we went much deeper than that, maybe 60 feet??, sooo there goes $300... shuold have got a better spaergun than that... Anyway spearfishing is great. I still dont know how to make a thread coul you guys help me?

I hope to sperfish some day with you guys, and learn, cause I still got loooots to learn as we have seen...

cheket!!! y gracias d nuevo a todos, no me imagine q fueran tan cool con los nuevos!!

    Hi:

My name is Jorge Luis. Im from Puerto Rico and have 23 years, Im a biologist and also a veterinary student at the Universidad Central del Este at Dominican Republic. As you may guess this two islands are my diving spots :D. I was introduced to this forum by attan, a great friend of mine and also a great spearfisher. We began our spearfishing specifically in Ballena Beach at Yauco, PR. At first we were so rookies that we just have one speargun, no gloves, bodyboarding fins, a cheap mask and snorkel, but also a lot ignorance and urges to fish as you can see.

As the time passed by, we encountered serious problems from the lack of gear, like boat passing very close to us, also bites from eels, bull and tiger shark sightings, hipotermia, lost tips and fish and other stuff I cannot say here hehehehe, we gained more experience and with that, more necessary gear. Thanks God I didnt lost my finger from that eel!!! but almost!!!:thumbsup2:

In PR, when Im in vacations, attan and I go to Guanica, Rincon, Yauco, Cabo Rojo and other costal towns in here. The fish are abundant, healthy but pretty smart!!! No wonder they got so big!! Now in the Dominican republic i havent found a trustworthy companion for a 4 hour fishing schedule, but i have snorkeled with some friends and i can say its pretty much like here, hey, its the same sea.

I was introduced to this sport by my brother in law, Ousama Bin Salha, a great guy, and also an awesome spearfisher. he tought me everyting i needed to know, and also the gear that I needed, but by that time I didnt listen to his warnings :@, bad bad bad. Now we know better and have a gloves, diving fins, better masks and snorkels, wetsuits, boys, flags, fish holders.... welll you know, all of that. he is coming in June to PR from Lebanon where he lives and spearfish every week, I hope i can introduce him to you all.

At fist i had a JBL explorer 20, before the carbine attan and I used both and gotted tired of switching so everyone could fish hehehe. Now I use a 42 special AB Biller. Over time i have captured groupers, jacks, hogfishes, cowfish, barracudas, rays, spiny lobsters, sleepy crabs, etc. If I can i will post videos and photos of our fishing trips!!

Well I think thats all of my presentation, hope to meet you all, and even better to speargun side by side with you guys some day!!! If you are interested in spearfishing here and get to know each other, you can fly here and stay at my home, in PR or DR!!! tke care dudes and good hunting.

PS. If the sea isnt appropiate to spearfish, its appropiate to surf so either way, we win!!! :cool2:
