Vis in Ventura is questionable at best....You could get lucky.

I grew up the area and used to dive the south silver strand jetty. Do it in the morning before the wind gets on it. There used to be some monster sheep head.

As you move notrh of malibu...dume...Leo Carillo...kelp off county line.....deer creek road...south silver strand jetty....arco island....noth SB....

I am no master of the area, but the most important factor is being lucky and picking a day with good vis...

Growing up in ventura we maybe had 5 days a year with 10+ feet of vis

Forgot to start the thread with a BS fist post....Here is the real report

Sorry for the late report but not too much to talk about. Water was cold and green. Only came across two paddies. One was good size with bait but no shooters. Ran out of Loma to the 302….226….182…north a little more towards the 181…..conditions got good around 1:00pm sun came out and the wind died a little. ……..decided to run in to the loma kelp and throw some fish traps for calico and barracuda…….saved the day…off shore was weak……hopefully it will start before it is over.

My name is Matthew Swartout. I am a spearfisherman, a fisherman, a free diver, a surfer, and a swimmer. I eat, breath, drink, and dream spearfishing. I first experienced the thrill of spearfishing when I was around 11 years old, and over the next 21 years I either spearfished or lobster dove as much as possible.

Growing up in Ventura County, I was primarily a surfer but I always loved to fish. I now live in San Diego and believe that it is one of the most beautiful places to live and spearfish.

I primarily dive for white seabass, dorado, and yellowtail.

My hunting grounds are La Jolla, the Coronados, and the offshore banks within 40 miles of San Diego Bay….and on a rare occasion the channel islands.

What I want to get out of this forum:
    • A collaborative and synergistic approach to the development of my spearfishing skills through two- way communication of information, strategies, & ideas
    • Find skilled and experienced dive buddies
    • Living vicariously through the epic posts while sitting behind the computer
