On another note how do you find spearfishing and MMA go together? Diving relaxes me so much I've lost the urge to win a long time ago. When I go train it's because I tell myself it's necessary, I want to know that I'm well protected.

That's actually a good question and something I have never really though about until now. I think its pretty simple though. I started wrestling at the age of 4, and was told at a young age that I can be great at one sport or decent at a lot of them, and either way was ok. I picked to be great at wrestling and do the best that I could. I did take it quite far and is pretty much the only reason why I am able to fight for a paycheck.. That's luck though, I was born with some pretty amazing parents and a father that was able to face me in the right direction that allowed me to take it as far as I wanted to. That being said, I fight because I know that one day there is a possiblity that I can be the best 185'er in the world. With a lot of hard work, and a lot of dedication. I get to work out with the king of that weight already now and its inspiring. So my competetive drive is to try to be the best in the world at it, which is a very high goal. The training that goes with it is plain miserable a lot of the time, but its what it takes I am learning. The other thing about fighting is fight day is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world. When you win your on top of the world, when you loose, its one of the worst feelings you could imagine but you know it just means you need to work harder.

Diving however is totally different. I have been spearfishing now for about 5 years, and I'll admit that I still suck. I'll never be even close to the best freediver or spearo in the world, and I am ok with that. I do this sport because I get to see a world I was naive enough to not even realize it existed 6 years ago. A world that many people will never witness in their lifetime. When I am in the water, I don't think about the day by day stress, getting married in a few months, my upcoming fight. I just enjoy the opportunity to be there, forget about all my troubles, and enjoy the company of good people and mentors while I am out there. Its a different kind of stress reduction then hitting a bag, and it might even alleviate a different kind of stress. But when I am on the water, I forget about everything else and just enjoy everything that's around me.

Sorry for the crappy grammar, long day of packing for my move on Sunday.

I think theres more then just age involved.. People like Randy show that every time he fights. It has a lot to do as well with how they adapted to others as they became more well rounded. If you watch some of Randys old fights and how he fights now, its completely different. He evolved with the game.

Age doesn't help though, the older you get the longer it takes to heal, and the harder cardio is to gain. I have a ton of respect for Ken, when I was a kid he was one of my heroes. That's why this is such a neat opportunity for me. Not very often does someone in my field get a chance at a legend, let alone one of their own heroes.

Nice fish man. Halis are one of the most rewarding fish to shoot. A lot of people argue they are the best tasting fish we can take as well. If you ever want to come down to North County I'll take you somewhere that I know has them every now and then.

Hes a tough guy, and can still get the job done. Unfortunatly though, hes kind of like Ken now in the sense that he can't come close to getting it done against the top dogs anymore. The sport has evolved so much in the years its amazing. But some of the greats aren't able to compete like they once were because of it.

Right now its set to be Ken Shamrock. However, Rizzo just wrecked Ken's knee so were seeing if Ken is going to show up or not and going from there.

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone. I like it here, I haven't read one post thats full of bs and drama.

LOL way to make an entry Ethan. Reminds me of getting out of the water on a couple of our beach dives, especially one on Laguna. Just another way to give people all the right impression right away!

    Welcome bro

Thanks guys appreciate it. It seems half almost everyone that made posts I actually read is over here.. Hmm..

Im land locked until Tuesday, if anyone else wants to head out then let me know.

Nice haul man, halibut are a fun fish to shoot. Took my little brother on his first beach dive the other day and he said he saw a "puffer fish" that looked just like a football that was about the size of his arm. He was afraid to shoot it because he was afraid of the spines. :laughing3::thumbsup2:

Thanks Don, I am going to head out for a run then to bed, these new work hours are kicking my butt to. Was a blast meeting you and everyone else at OOF, that was one hell of an event. Thanks to the Pistoleros for putting that on. Was a great time.

Hey everybody, I heard about this board and it sounds like a great place to hang out! For those of you that don't know me, I started diving in the end of 05 / start of 06. I fell in love with the sport, and dive as much as time permits, however like everyone else spend quite a bit of time getting things done and not in the water. I have been blessed this year with coming across some great mentors that have taught me a ton, and have been taking me out on a regular basis to continue to try to put me on my first WSB and YT. I am moving to Temecula here in a week, and am always looking for more people to dive with. I can pretty much dive Sunday afternoons, anytime Monday and Tuesday, and Wed mornings. I am always looking for more people to head out with, and always looking to gain knowledge from anyone that's willing to share theirs with me.

Looking forward to reading everyones posts and absorbing some more knowledge. Thanks for telling me about this board fellas!
