I have been working on the water since early 94, down here and up north out of Half Moon Bay, and have never seen one. In or out of the water. We did get the boat bumped by a huge basking shark that the captain coincidentally snagged when we fishing for salmon.

My wife got me one a few years ago for Christmas. The battery was dead when it arrived. Each time I replaced the battery and wore it, it died in minutes. It has not flooded. Just a waste of money. If anybody wants mine, they can have it. Hope it works out for you.

I have the Raymarine C120 with a 1KW transducer. Personally, I think it is garbage, but it came with the boat and I can't afford to buy a new Furuno unit. It is an all in one and I am not a huge fan of that style. I would rather have different units for each. I don't know why I am so negative, my wife keeps saying how grumpy I am today.

I don't understand how they get the fish off the hook.

Dan, it isn't a hook in the normal sense. It is more of an "L" shape with no barbs. I have a few laying around. When I think of it, I will take a pic and post it. It is awesome catching fish on the lift pole. I never did it commercially, but I have been on some stops where the fish were eating the 100 pound test. I used to have a really nice fiberglass liftpole, but it fell off the boat one night. There is another movie called "Tribute to tuna" that shows what the commercial tuna fleet used to be like back in the day. Gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it.

Hey folks, just got invited over here by Don Paul and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Leo and I live in Oceanside, CA. Have only been spearfishing for about 4 years now, but I seem to do ok. I do about 50-50 shore and boat diving and don't particularly have a favorite fish to shoot. Judging by what Don was telling me about this site, there isn't a whole lot of drama and sounds good to me. Anyway, just stopping by to say hi.
