As a fisherman, the tides have played a major role in how, when and where I fish. Now that I'm learning to spearfish, I'm finding that it does'nt matter to the fish what the tide is doing because they dont have to be hungry for me to catch them. I am, however, having a hard time learning to watch the tide to ensure the best clearity when diving. I can't get it right.
Also, do certian fish only move when the tides are in particular phases?
I'm excited about this thread because this is something I'm not good with. Hopefully some of you more experienced spearos can give good insite.Nic

This is all interesting to read about but I'm too chicken to try it in the water with O2. I'm pretty new to freediving but I've been having very good results with a lot of time in the water and practicing static tables when I can't get wet. My goal is to maximize time on the bottom at around 45'.

Fishhound,
Sounds like you should just exercise and practice static tables if you want to improve your bottom time. Comp freedivers use O2 but its not practical in spearfishing. Play it safe.

Oto,
You are a superb story-teller. I enjoyed the report. Sounds like a good time. One you'll never forget.

I like that. Mostly the price. Thats bout all I need for my little 18' bay boat.

My bad. I use the GPS 72H. I also use it for Geocaching with my kids.

Could yall add some info on bottom readers. I use GPS to find my spots but after I get there I pretty much just get in the water and see whats there. Is that the norm for everybody else or do you watch the screen on a botom reader and pass on the spot if it looks barren?

I would be interested in how many "close calls" go unreported. In freediving, many will suffer SWB or some other event and nobody ever knows about it. In SCUBA, some will surface bent and never see a doctor.

Awesome. Thanks Dan.

The barrel. I have no idea where to start.

What could a guy do to get a spearfishing wetsuit that fits a 6'6", 160 pounder? Everything I try on is too baggy or too short.
Ive been on several weight gain diets......I spend a lot of money and gain not a pound. Buying clothes sucks, wet suits are worse.
Do you usually get custom suits? Where do you get yours from? Do you have to have them made custom or does someone sell them for stickbags?

808natural,
Can I ask where you got the idea or template for the blanks? I would like to try this but have no idea where to start.

I still like SCUBA for site seeing, picture taking, hippie stuff. But to shoot fish I prefer to get rid of the clumsey, loud and restrictive BC and tank.
Jason, I live in Lake Wales(about 45 minutes from Disney). My brother and I are always ready to head to the ocean, but we're not that great at finding the fish yet. My boat is only 18' wich makes it difficult to get out very far to deep water.

Thanks Don. You guys are pretty entertaining!

Hi,
My name is Nic and I live in Central Florida. My brother and I have been learning to spearfish this year. We started with SCUBA and have graduated to freediving. I'm hoping to meet some new people to spearfish with and learn a little more. I normally dive out of Stump Pass or Boca Grande Pass on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
