I've never seen one here, but Capt Ron got rushed by a small one two seasons ago on the backside of Cat. He was in thick kelp and it rushed him 3 times before it swam off.
He said it was cool, go figure.

Finally put it together at the island, right on! I know it's been a little rough this year, glad to see your perserverence pay off.
I would have loved to be out there Chris, unfortunately I've been getting buried in this heat at work.
Glad to see somebody's killin it!
Sweet Miguel! Before I read the story, I was thinking I was going to ask you who spotted the fish out for you.:laughing3:
I used to think I couldn't see them either, but all it is is putting in your time like anything else. Pretty soon you'll be slaying them. That's a great fish, congrats!
I want to see a picture of the new Ono Chris
Nice fish Daniel, you're stoked!
Display MoreHey John. Welcome back!
I'm dealing with alot of ear issues as of late and it sucks!
Later man,
Matt
Sorry to hear about the ear issues Matt. I dealt with them for YEARS, trust me I know. Once they cored me out though............bliss! I've only had one infection in 6 years and that was from doing a salvage job with my buddy Ron deep in the LA harbor.
The best thing about it is that I can hear again. Got so bad the last two years, I was 80% deaf, then with any type of inflamation I'd go completely deaf. You take that stuff for granted until you actually lose it.
Hope you're well Matt. Heard you guys had a good trip when John came out. Thanks for takin the kid out, he was starting to get a little sour on the phone:D
Display MoreAngel sharks eat halibut! - - .....
Usually high tide for near shore - they move in and out with the tide.... Incoming tide more will be facing in than out.... and reverse But - it's site dependent--- and lots of variables.
yep.... grunion run -- they follow the lunch wagon.
In parts of PV -- (for example the N end.... )sea cliffs are composed of very soft fine grained siltstone - when there are tides - waves high enough to reach the cliffs the vis goes to crap..... In those conditions..... while the buts may be there.... you cant see them..... and the vis may be better on low tide........ ie to shoot um you have to see them...... so site dependent..... most sites vis better on high tide and buts come in with tide to feed....If conditions are calm.... they come in and dont move out......
. My experience - if they're bunches of bat rays..... generally together for mating..... they tend to move a lot - jump..... and I think the halis just move out...... but, if there's tons of bait.... the buts will stay.... but are tough because real jumpy.....
So the theme here....is..... if there is a lot of bait fish around...... there are often halibut.... high or low tide - -- moon or not..... they love anchovies..... and squid.
that's all solid info, thanks!
I've heard someone say that once the batrays move in, the halibut diving slows down. Not overall, but in general. There's definately a point in the year where I'm getting alot of fish without seeing a ton of Batrays, then, I see more batrays, and less fish. That's been my experience, but I just started putting in more time on the halibut in the last 2 years.
Hey Corey, give me a call, I lost your # and can't seem to access the pm process yet. I'm back in town for a few weeks and want to hook up brother!
Nice to see that little Picasso gettin a work-out!:thumbsup2:
Ya John, that little gun has killed alot of flatfish this year. I love that gun and I'm glad you decided to donate it to the cause before you left!:thumbsup2:
here's a few more from this season.......All these fish are from out in front of my house. I'm lucky like that:)
trying to post my first pics up. Let's try these and see what you think. These are a few from a recent trip to Baja I took.
pm me your # and I'll call you with some details.
Yes there is diving there, and yes it can be quite good.
Also, I hope you're bringing an extra board as that sandbar eats surfboards like cracker jacks.
thanks Dan, I'm sure that'll help.
Well, actually just changed my name and going through the process again. I was Go Big, but anytime I stray from simplicity, I do stupid stuff like forget my password etc.... Thought I'd just go back to basics and stick with what I know.
Re-intro: Been diving my whole life although just got back into it seriously about 6 years ago after having my ears sliced off and my skull drilled due to "surfers ear." Prior to that, had to stop diving for 10 years because my ear canals were 98% closed and couldn't equalize. Since I've gotten back into it, I've been lucky enough to get lots of help from some great divers and have had some unbelieveable experiences.
I live in San Pedro in Southern California and dive alot right in front of my house. I also do some trips to the islands and Baja whenever my schedule permits. Been off the board for a while as I've been on vacation bouncing around alot.
Anyways, it's nice to see more guys on the California board, I know most of you clowns, and I feel lucky to be a part of the tribe.
Love the board here, and appreciate all the tips as I've got alot to learn. Eventually I hope to contribute some and if I can ever figure out how to post pics, I'll drop some recent fish porn on you all.
