I'm driving in for a friends bday party this weekend, seeing if any locals could partner up and go diving. Since moving to PHX in last january, I've really missed diving several times per week.

So just doing this as a call out, since I don't know the area around SD at all and would really love to go diving at least a few times over the weekend. Day or night, bugs or calicos...let me know if you want to dive.

I'm driving in Thursday morning, so would be available to dive anytime Thursday evening on into the night. And leaving Sunday, so Thurs, Frid, Saturday...

PS, you don't have to worry about me blowing up your spot...its a long drive from Phoenix and I can keep a secret.

    Hey,

So I'd figure i'd post here first. A lot of you old timers probably have a lot of extra equipment just sitting around.

I'm looking for a light mounted bug gauge or kit. I know they're like $20 at sport chalet, but again, seeing if I can kick that cash to one of you guys instead.

Secondly, I'm looking to see if any has any extra old scuba gear i could buy/borrow/rent for the lobster opener. I've got a BC/jacket but am looking for a regulator and other extras. let me know if this is a possibility and if you'd like to help out.

woo...this is my first halibut shot. Went out with Miguel the other day.

So we got in and I went right into the thick kelp while miguel stuck to the sandy areas. The viz was much much much better in there. I spooked a big one (probably a little smaller than miguels catch) and then I finally saw this one chilling in between some rocks and kelp.

measured in @ 22'' exactly...nothing huge but my first, so WOOO. He wasn't covered up at all, just chilling on the bottom. I spent probably 5 mins looking at it, trying to measure it up from the surface before pulling the trigger. As I was pulling him in, he spit out a big sardine type fish, so I guess he just ate and was feeling lazy.

man, these fillets are huge compared to the calicos I'm used to. Anyone ever cut out the meat around the cheek, near the eyes? I got two silver dollar sized bits from both sides. I've got them soaking in milk before I freeze them.

Also, what's the weird Y shaped, orange organ near the belly? never seen that before in a fish.

side note: are you guys usually active on Spearboard too? what's the big difference between these two? why need both boards?

    Hey,

So I've been spearing and diving for about a year now. I've got 1 bug season under the belt and just shot my first halibut this week.

I usually do shore dives in PV, and I've got a small inflatable to hit up the Redondo breakwall. If anybody wants to help paddle, you're more then welcome to join.

I'm a grad student at USC, so I've got a lot of free time in between classes, so if anybody is looking for a dive buddy, just let me know.
