  • I will be there to support equity between all who swim, dive or walk sandy beach with our fury brothers. I will and always obey the Fish and Game laws of our state and look forward to meeting the new Ranger in the area.

    All the best, Don Paul

Look forward to meeting you on the 17th. I drop the fam off at the airport that day then I'm a bachelor for a few days :toast::toast:

  • What time is everyone meeting at CP ? Will there be a table set up away from the opposition ?
I don't want them to think I'm fur ball hunting with a couple vintage spear guns.:@
I also need a recommendation on parking.
    Thanks, Don

I want more pictures of that dragon!

I will be getting there early and setting up on the sand behind the rock at the bottom of the stairs with my ez-up and grill. I will have some extra chairs and a couple of tables for grilling/display. The activists rarely step on the beach for obvious reasons. Parking on the weekends is pretty easy. There is a lot of turn over on the parking at the top of the stairs and in front of Casa De Manana on coast. There are quite a few diagonal spots. I have never waited longer than 20 minutes to find a convenient spot (even on holidays). If you call ahead, we will try to reserve one for you right up front. The restricted parking times are not enforced on weekends so they can be ignored. I will have my dive gear and we always have plenty of eyes to watch any stuff. The biggest problem is not disturbing the seals in the early morning. They usually head to the water once the sun is shining and they get hungry.

  • Thanks I'll ring you up tonight around 8 if that's OK?

    Cheers, Don

I'll bump the Dragon thread....tis the season.

  • I will be bringing two of Jack's guns and a Wally Potts, along with a DVD (Blue Water Hunters) that has a long segment of the Bottom Scratchers footage shot by Lamar Boren.

A Mel Clark Addict club type and a Herb Sampson can be brought as well, but I am open to other choices if you guys have a favorite....ie; Warren Tuna gun Owned by the late Bill Kroll or a fire extinguisher CO gun.
I would like to leave the shafts at home as I don't want to remove any sharp tips.

The only one I will not bring out in the sunshine is Big Jim's one off presentation Safari as it is lacquered light wood that would darken in sunlight.

    Cheers, Don

  • Thanks to those who noticed the rope "didn't look right" this morning. With the help of a good friend, I was able to make some measurements today and compare them to the City's permit for the rope. Unfortunately, there seem to be problems with it. Feel free to check it out yourself and contact the City of San Diego if you feel it is warranted.

The Parks and Rec department had the authority to install a rope barrier today. However, there are several conditions mentioned in the permit. Specifically, under the section "Planning/Design Requirements", condition 11 states, "The installed rope length shall not exceed 130 feet, and a minimum three-foot opening shall be maintained from the post at the easterlymost end of the rope to the nearest obstruction so as to create an opening for beach access." Condition 12 states, "The rope installation shall not use more than four posts, and each post shall not exceed four feet in height." Condition 13 states, "Installed rope height shall not exceed four feet."

Unfortunately, the Parks and Rec department has not complied with this permit. The rope, as installed is approximately 148 feet long. This far exceeds the allowable length of the rope as explicitly conditioned in the permit. The rope is 18 feet too long which is a significant obstruction to access to the beach. Additionally, several posts are greater than 4 ft. tall. Finally, the rope is also greater than 4 feet tall at the posts. This represents a very significant obstruction to public access on a public beach and is a clear violation of the permit conditions. Please refer to my attached photos. Note that I had a 100 ft. measuring tape. Therefore, my assistant stood at 100 away from the seawall while making the measurements of the end of the rope and the pictures illustrating this read 48 feet instead of 148 feet.

This situation needs to be rectified immediately. I suggest filling out and mailing the form found at this website: http://www.sandiego.gov/cityattorney...plaintform.pdf
Likewise, the complaint line found at this website should be contacted:

  • Sooo I had quite a few good sayings yesterday when dealing with the idiots.

Bryan Pease (sealwatch/aprl lawyer) was wearing a suit with
Not tie and his shirt unbuttoned. I told him he had nice chest hair it was pretty funny.

Another woman said that Ellen Scripps is dead so there should not be a trust anymore. I then told her that since George Washington is dead we should get rid of the constitution and the bill of rights.

Almost immediately a guy from FOS said I had no manners and was mouthing off. I kindly asked him if he was gonna do something about it?? He didn't do anything. I'm no tough guy but I wish one of those idiots would hit me.
