So im getting a new gun!
    :fanwave:
I Got the go ahead and checked the bank tonight to see the prices i could afford. So basically i can choose any gun on the market that i want. But her comes the part in which I'm posing on the form. I'm torn between Riffe and Wong. Now for you guys going :wtf2: is wrong with me, Wong any day, here comes the catchy part. I'm torn between buying 1 Wong for the rest of my life, or 2 Riffes. The Wong would be a Hybrid 55 in GR Semi Enclosed or Mid Handle 9/32 shaft. Once i add the bells and whistles, I'm looking around a grand or more for it. The Riffes would be the other option as i would like a Euro Series E-110X and a Mid handle series 55''. The reason for 2 is i have a friend who gave me an offer i would almost be stupid to say no to (yes he's an authorized dealer), and this gives me the option of having a reef gun, and a Blue Water gun for the big boys. I know Wong gives a lifetime warranty on his gun which i love :thumbsup2: but Riffe is also offering a 3 year warranty on their guns to. Another thing is I've shot a Riffe once and seen it in action multiple times. Its great at kicking ass and taking names, for any fish really. But i do know that Wong is known all over the world for makeing these bad boys. I have even seen the photos of yall shooting Wong's and getting some fish. I want a wood gun because i love that they do have a buoyant float to them after being fired, so no metal tech series. Give me your reasons PLEASE!!! The deal for Riffe ends on Jan 31st! So times a wastin...

I got one for yall, you'll have to bear with me as this is when i was using the dark side.... Scuba...

So i went diving off of the NC shipwreck called the Papoose. Great place for diving, with Grouper and Black Sea Bass out of the wazoo. It was a good dive with 1 yellow mouth Grouper and 3 black sea bass so far. I knew that there were Sand Tigers in the area as i saw a few 4-5 footers, but none payed me any close attention. I just shot my last sea bass when i got the feeling something wasn't right. I looked around and saw nothing. So i got my fish, took him off the spear and knifed him. I was starting up the ascent line when i looked at the edge of the wreck (50 or so feet away) and saw the outline of a Tiger. I watched as it went back into the gloom. It didn't reappear, so i went up the line and did my routine 3 min safety stop. Well my buddy gave the shark sign to me and pointed straight down. I looked and saw nothing. So i thought he needed his eyes checked and gave him the finger for scaring the shit out of me. A min or so later, he togged my fin, and turned my head again below him. Sure as shit their was a 8-9 foot tiger circling beneath me slowly coming up. Thank god the capts kid was in the water, so i slammed the back of my tank to get his attention and he swam down to grab the fish. The last 30 seconds were the worse.... As i counted down the seconds till i can haul ass out of the water, the smell of fresh fish brought the shark closer. He got about 25 feet when my safety stop ended and my ass was hauling out of the water. After that, i haven't tried spearing with sharks again.

I have been spearfishing while using scuba for about 2 years now. So I've got the basics down so far. Fish identification, sizes, types, distance. I also got the basics for freediving as I took a class with Evolve Freediving last October. I got a JBL speargun, Omer Fiberglass fins, a Xcel wetsuit, aqua sphere mask. I just know nothing about the freediving aspect. Over the past 2 days, I've read everything on the Forum from Barracudas possibly having cig, to custom speargun makers. I'm eager to learn, it just most of the stuff that people are talking about is over my head. And yes i do need at least a 3mm wetsuit when diving off the coast, and yea we do have reefs. We also get some of the tropical fish up here like Queens, but another downside to that is the dam Lion fish. So we have the variety, but I'm really interested in starting to game fish hunt.

Attan, yo hablo español porque yo uso a vivir en Texas.
Ah, y gracias por la ayuda. Cualquier ayuda es mejor que nada. Gracias amigo.:thumbsup2:

I'm interested in trying blue water spearfishing. I have 4 problems though...

    1. Places to go out of. I Live in North Carolina, which in short means that the place is over runnel by scuba. I haven't run into any place (so far and I've looked, trust me) that will accept freedivers. (because of the lack of knowledge that they know about freediving) So I'm in need of a ride out to a spot, which maybe you guys could have some recommendations about.

2.I Don't have the proper gear, or know anything about the correct gear to use. I have a JBL speargun, which in short has kept me happy. It was a great starter, but now I'm in need for something... more. Its a 3 band so it can pack a punch, and i have a few fish to prove it. But I don't own the proper equipment for freediving. So far I have used others rig for freediving once or twice, but never my own. And those rigs were extremely simple with only a reel attached to it.

    3. I don't have anyone to learn from. This is the major problem that I'm having to deal with. I grew up in a family where hunting was passed from generation to generation. The secrets, the way to stalk, etc. Everything I've learned about spearfishing so far has been self taught. Not to say that its a bad thing, I just lack someone to teach me the small things about hunting. Especially for freediving.

    4. I don't know what fish to start with and what to shoot. Like I said I'm a hunter. I eat what I kill. Its been my belief and I will never decide otherwise. But i do want to try some more thrilling hunting. The most I've tried as far as game fish is AJ, and boy was that exciting. i tried once to shoot a cuda in the gulf of Mexico, and he broke off my spear tip (because i bought the wrong size) and I have had cold feet ever since. But ill try whatever, whenever.

So gimmie your opinions, any and all are welcomed, trust me.

Hey new to the form. I Love the water and when I'm not in the water, I thinking about it. I was born into hunting, specifically elk hunting in Colorado, so when I first saw a speargun, I thought it would be the best of both worlds. little did I know, was that I was going to get hooked on it. More or less addicted to it, like a crack head is on crack. I go off of NC for the monster black grouper, but recently I have been interested in game fish, particular blue water. Never tried it, mainly I don't know many charters in NC that take free divers, and I don't know any that will take freedivers that far off the coast for dolphin, Wahoo, etc. I'm new to the freediving aspect, though I have been using scuba for 3-4 years now. I got a JBL woody 53'' magnum, so nothing great. But I try to use the best of what I got. I have recently been in the market for a new gun (probably a Wong speargun) but am stuck on the price. I work at a Dive Shop locally so I'm either diving scuba, or working scuba:thumbsup2:
