I've never seen the dogs get stuck by a hog, but I know it's happened. But they're bred to be hunting dogs, Catahoulas were first bred in Louisiana as working/hunting dogs and they absolutely love it.

I like those dogs a lot, i don´t know if they are good for personal protection though, here in good ole México, the crime is in its peak, last month a friend of mine was kidnapped by an armed mercenary commando and they let him go on Dec,23 ..just before Xmas eve. This is a bloody crazy country, we need all the help we can get.

They make good guard dogs. My uncle lives in Ocala, and they alert him whenever someone pulls into the driveway. He lives in relative solitude, so he needs dogs that are going to let him know when somethings going on. You can also train them to "attack" if you really wanted to. Catahoula Bulldogs are typically the size of a American Bulldog, but have the intelligence of a Leopard dog.

Also forgot to put in, the Catahoula were used to find/chase the hogs, help bring em down. The American Bulldog would latch on and keep the hogs pinned to the ground.

If the hog was small we could effectivly release it, and it would go on its way. If it was decent size we would harvest it.

I used to hog hunt all the time with my uncle in Ocala. He had three Catahoula Bulldogs and a purebred American Bulldog for his hunting dogs.

The Catahoulas were great chase dogs, and the AB was usually the one that brang the hog to the ground and kept it there.

They're extremly loyal dogs, good guard dogs, fast, energetic, just an overall great dog.

My favorite dog has always been a pitbull, believe it or not they're great dogs if your an active family.

Now they arent very good guard dogs, because everyone that walked in my house or backyard was always greeted with a lick and invitation to give em a belly rub.

Been thinking about getting one of these dogs, its half American Bulldog, half Catahoula Leopard dog. Hence the name Catahoula Bulldog.

Does anyone ever chum when they got onto the reef?

I used to work on charter boat and we would throw "sand balls" which were actually mixtures of oats, menhaden oil, chum block, corn, dried cat food, bag of silversides, and little saltwater to bind it all together. I've seen muttons, blacks, gags, yellowtail, mangroves, kings, ceros, jacks, triggers, occasional blackfins/little tunny's, we've even got sailfish, all caught while sand balling.

I've been thinking that this would be a real effective way to help bring in other fish from surronding reefs, and get em a little bit more active. Not really concerned about sharks, if they show up they show up thats what the dive partner is for. ;)

So let me hear it yes, no, sometimes? Why and why not...

Ok went out today only for 3 hours to do a test run, so decided why not bring along the Riffe and a block of chum.

It's a freakin laser btw... we didnt have much time, and it was mostly just to run my friends boat to see if all the electrical work we did would hold up (which it did).

So we just put out a block of chum in 18 ftw and picked off our limit of 12-16 inch mangroves (I know tiny fish but I was itching to try out the gun needed some fish to make ceviche) in less than 20 minutes. Could'nt be happier with the guns accuracy.

So should I upgrade to two 5/8 bands or just leave it how it is? I definetly do not want to sacrifice accuracy for a little bit more range.

Also does anyone have a extra float line that they wanna sell?

This is the reel that I got

So Riffe doesnt make a part for a reel that they say will fit "all" of their guns? I have to fabricate my own? Oh well

Okay I've got the nice Riffe reel now... but how do I mount it onto the Competitor, I see it was ready for the Euro because the mounting bracket is flat, but my gun has a rounded stock.

Is there a modification that I need to make, and how should I go about drilling holes into the gun?

Ya I know your not suppossed fight it like a fishing reel. But the reel is also basically a Mares... Inspecting carfully they appear to of had Mares make the reels, and Riffe just put a sticker over it.

Also looking online I found someone on a forum that posted something about the Mares/Riffe thing... to me it just feels crappy, not solid at all, I did feel the one that your probally talking about (cost around $220) and it felt pretty good and sturdy.

I bought a $120 Riffe reel, and its absolute shit. I'm gonna return it tommorow, it feels like it cost $2.75 to make and the drag blows. Are all speargun reels garbage? I'm used to nice fishing reels, so am I wrong when I think that when I crank the drag down, it shouldnt be harder to reel in the line?

I'm also using a reel because I tried using the floatline when I went out sunday and let me say..... with these people :frustrated1:.

I cannot use a floatline (A.K.A. I have an extremly short temper) when I'm diving with people that insist on tangling themselves in my floatline every fifteen minutes.

So the Riffe is now my shallow water (40 feet and shallower) gun, and the RA is my deeper water gun where the :pot2::drink3::pot1::tequila: divers cant dive.

I signed up at the store for their "customer rewards" thing, or you can sign up online?? I got an email saying all riffes were - off their already lowered prices, so I did an exchange and instead of $425 after taxes it was $333.

I've finally got the Competitor 3X... btw it was $333 with tax at Divers Direct, almost $100 off retail. I bought a floatline for my RA 120, and want to get a reel for the 3X.

Whats a good reel for under $150 thats not going to affect the way the gun floats/sinks too much?
