I just got in last night from an epic trip to LaPaz and the surrounding areas. I met up with a couple buddies (Jason from Boston and Pat from Tampa) in Cabo and headed north in our rental car. We fished when we could based on the wind, which was off and on throughout the trip. The water temp was around 65* and vis around 25-35 feet depending on the spot. We managed to shoot some great fish despite the sometimes rough conditions. Pat got some great Cabrilla, and Pargo- He seems to excel at finding grouper and burger king :laughing3: Jason shot a monster of a bumphead parrot that I will post when he sends some pics. I had a great time doing the things I love on vacation like drinking beer in the shower, and eating dinner twice one night. Sunburn is not so bad when you have to go home to snow.....
I shot my first Gulf Grouper that went 46 pounds four hours after I shot it. I also landed my first Yellowtail, my personal best Barred Pargo. We shot some prime examples of the fish we were chasing. The fishing was great and the people very hospitable. I can't wait to get back. Here are a few pics including some seared Bonito, and Parrot and trigger cheviche. I will try to post a few more pics as they send them to me.

My little girl loved this video. I hope she gets an opportunity like that one day.

Great fish, can't wait to see some video. Last time I was in the Sea of Cortez we found a dead whale too, it was loaded with hundreds of Big Mahi. Headed back down next week.

I had 2 oceanos suits... worst suits I've ever owned.
I went to a tailor to get very exact measurements.
The suits I received did not reflect those measurements.Same here with the Oceanos. There was nothing "custom" about the cut. I could hardly take a breath once I put the suits on. My wife's custom Oceanos suit fits perfectly though, go figure.

At least Bill Gaines called them out on getting their feelings hurt. Is the assembly that is mentioned elected or appointed? I am amazed that the voters of California can influence/judge what another man does legally in another state. Who do they think they are? If the same guy went to Vegas and made a bet that would be illegal in CA, would the CA gaming commission go after him as well? Just silly.
Some great thoughts presented by people who obviously care in this thread. -
Done, and passed it on.

I feel that even though the cat hunt was legal (and I proudly pose for pics with my dead fish), he should have thought twice before letting his picture be taken/published given his position. Especially because he works for our illustrious state of California, home of the knee-jerk environmental reaction. If i'm correct wasn't Sutton a swing vote in favor of the stricter MLPA's? This is not good.
But for all you know the same people would have the same reaction over your WSB pic.... Or say, Yellow Eye Rock fish....a fish rare in some places, but abundant in my freezer.:)
It is simply dumbfounding to me that people would hide, act ashamed, cover-up, white -wash, or feel the slightest hint of doing something wrong when -pursuing legal game animals, in a legal way, as so instituted by the governing authority (no matter their ability or inability to do so ). Anything other than the true reality of the renewable natural resources is a blasphemous whitewash of the wildness I love. My 2 cents. Have fun with your cat problem. -
Skin them and keep the hides or they can also be sold. Bobcats like the one in the pic usually fetch about 300-400 bucks.

These are what we are really after...

You really don't control the paws. Once the cat is subdued (pinned with catch pole) they kind of give up. Like I said kind of. The trap is anchored solid on the end of it's chain. The person with the catch pole pulls the cat away from said anchor point thus stretching the leg with the trap on it. The one removing the trap then approaches from the anchor side and reaches in to release the jaw levers on the trap. I am glad it isn't something that happens often. With larger cats Wardens/biologists will drug the cat before removing the trap if one is caught incidentally. As I said this was a young cat.

I use a catch pole like animal control. Metal pole with a cable cinch on the end. One guy holds the cat, the other guy goes in and takes the trap off it's paw. Finally, take the catch pole off it's neck and hope it goes the other way.

Well said Dan, couldn't agree more. Here is a little one that was caught incidentally while trapping bobcats. The cat was released unharmed. It was a puckering experience, but an incredible moment.

What a joke.... who would want to work for a State like that in the first place. Lions are amazing animals, and deserve to be hunted. They are also eaten, which the voters of CA I guess didn't bother to realize- not that that matters anyhow. How much money has been paid to residents of CA for damage (livestock and pets) since the 1990 ruling? How many children have been attacked? Adults? California's "stand back and don't touch" mentality is the worst approach to game management. You cannot understand that which you are not connected to. The separation of Man and Nature is never a good thing; we must learn to live side by side and observe our dynamic interaction along the way in order to co-exist and evolve together. I hope someone gives that guy a job.
