got out tuesday with exequiel and David. We went on david's boat, very nice, and had a great time in spite of not coming home with any bugs
got a nice mixed bag in about 3 hours of diving. good times

hell yeah, bourdain is a great writer and he has a nice book too.
I love sha'warma esp in a laffa (the big thick bread)
of course I really love all the food in israelthat little clip has me starved...that pineapple on top sounds really good

of course....that makes good sense. I hope I was clear in that you could have the shafts I have for free, I would need you to cover the shipping though.
just let me know if those shafts don't fit the bill and we'll figure something out
-
how thick are you looking? I have two of the JBL adapt a shaft numbers, they are like 8mm thick and threaded male on both ends...they are about 60 inches, you could cut one in half and have two 30 threaded sections
let me know if you want one or both

damn glass ocean while I am stuck inside...hopefully this will improve on yesterday's AWFUL viz
hau said it was 12 ft but I would call it a lot closer to 8, maybe 12 once you were holding the bottom. aspetto was the only chance yesterday and I still didn't see anything. while dropping Icould barely see the tip of my gun outstretched
-
mine is mounted through hull style, so I lose the temp function which does suck, but I know I have no leaks
I have a 12v 8 mamp hour batt that lasts two or three outings without a charge, about 4 hours each time

sure thing man...i don't know if you can see it in those pics, if not I'll add some..it is a single green bungee that I wrap under the board and clip into the padeyes.
athough I have a tough time getting the bucket out at the end of the day. I think it would hold just fine without anything, the bungee is really for extra peace of mind
-
i will promise you a few picks by the end of the weekend
-
i wanna dive tomorrow but it looks ugly....think I will head to the jax at 930 and see what the viz is like....anyone who wants to head out ...look for my flag (huge) on the first reef or over the jax

by bending a plate around the board and then drilling throug the top, you get a reinforced hole (wont tear out of the foam) and the bottom is secure (it acts as a backstop)
nice board projectile... Ilike it a lot. I would maybe add a few quick release straps on the corners so you can clip extra gear onto it or just to hold your stuff while you are getting geared up or down in the water. I also like to keep a bottle of water. Iguess you could slip it into your fish bag, but then you have to open it and move around the fish to get to the water. I would add a small bungee net for such items
looking forward to diving with you and seeing your sick yak
as hau said...pics please

very cool Dan, how did you learn to do this sort of training? I have always loved to work with my dog, but I only know how to do obedience and trick training. I'd love to get him to know how to do more service oriented work. any tips?

/\ sounds like a place fit for niether man nor beast...only fit for super spearos
-
the vis and the seas were almost the same.
5 foot of vis in 5 foot seas:)
so when you get swept in a swell you can't even see where you were :cool2:
i love a dedicated spearo...glad you made it back safely Hau

magicseaweed is showing that sunday afternoon should be calm..dead flat compared to lately
-
i would be a little proud if I were you..I mean you are doing protection training and your student is clearly doing great !!
now maybe a little bit of target identification training is in order

synthetic wine corks are the best spear tip covers...drill out a section about a mm smaller than your shaft and viola, it holds snug as can be...
I lose those almost immediately and end up with the cut up old band anyway
I think the issue for storing guns on the boat comes down t ohow easily ca nthe spears be removed and then re-rigged. if they are easy to take out and in, then storing the guns becomes easiler as you can just do any of the ideas, upside down (no spear to take the weight or get bent) , rightside up (nothing sharp to stab anyone) or horizontal (shorter without the spear)
i find it difficult when the shooting line and or slide rind adds more gear and makes it impracticle to do a quick change.

Jeff, you are correct, it would only be safe to use it unloaded. Iwas thinking that he could have the band out of the way for using one band only. I hadn't thought about when he wanted to quickly add the second band
That would depend on wether he has a reel/guide or not, no?
very good call, this would be almost impossible because Hau does use a reel....I saw the idea on a commercial freeshafter's gun and didnt think it through to applying it to hau.
one more idea would be to have the second band with you but not on the gun, that way it would not be easy to add the band once it is already loaded, but you would be able to add it quickly in the event you were seeing more fish off the bottom or less.

whats up buddy..Hau was telling me about your sweet yak. nice choice.
can't wait to see you out there

ill try sunday with ya.. should be an adventure

Jorge and I did our due diligence too, unfortunately no gear was found. the seas weren't too bad for the motor boat and I manged a nice hog and got a lot better at loading the tito gun.
I had a 30" mak that was positively mocking me....he swam by while I was unloaded, while I was incorrectly loaded and then stayed just out of range when I was ready... i hate that mack >:]
are we totally f'ed this weekend ? is anyone going out at all?
Jorge, wanna try again out at some other spots?
