I use Rob Allen poly twist rope. Comes in many lengths super cheap and the ends are finished. The twist is really tight. It doesnt tanglem and it coils well. This rope doesn't look all that different. Cant imagine it being that bad. Good call on dans clips. I just picked up 4 more from him tonight.

Dan. When you say "latest and best" do you mean of right now? Or the one that is about to land before this Christmas season (November)? It would perhaps be unwise to purchase a XBOX360 or PS3 right now because come November the new fancy ones will come out (At a hefty price tag) and the old ones will drop in price. Were basically on the tail tail end of an 8 year gaming console cycle. As soon as the new ones come out most developers will switch all their efforts to the new platforms leaving mostly the games that already exist available for that system. Meaning every new game that comes out wont be available.
IMHO The new XBOX ONE will be the best choice if you are really talking latest. Unlike the PS4 it will have a larger selection of age appropriate games. And with the KINECT many of those games end up being full on physical activity (Dancing, sports, etc). I own a WII and find thrashing that damn controller around quickly becomes a gimmick, even for many kids. I much prefer the versatility in types of physical games that are available using the KINECT sensor. Dancing and sports where it can sense all the moments of all your limbs etc. The only possible issue with the xbox one would maybe be the controller size. Its probably the largest of all consoles.
I somewhat disagree with Xan on how many age appropriate games will be available for the xbox one. I def agree its not mainly targeted at kids like the WiiU or Wii. But its very family oriented and split pretty evenly. Between the nextgen consoles its most kid oriented I think (over the ps4). And when kids come over they always want to play xbox not the wii. If the games they have for the 360 are any indication there will be tons of age appropriate stuff in the future for one. Here are some games they already announced in the direction you are talking (learning, creativity, and physical activity):
Just Dance 2014, Fantasia, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition (she would love this, infinite virtual legos) , Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, Project: Spark, Kinect Sports Rivals, Lego Marvel Superheros. Not to mention adult centric but still kid appropriate games like sports/racing.
Thats more really cool games then you would probably be willing to buy for a while at 60 bucks a pop. Although in a few years you can get used games for nearly nothing (There are also rental services like netflix that let you mail game rentals)
The Wii U is a good kids gaming system but IMHO rather then promote physical activity it promotes "never stop" mentality that kids can sometimes get when they obsess over playing video games. It also really lacks the kind of power and technology the new systems will have and use to make really interesting beautiful games. The Wii is even further behind in that arena but less confusing.
I have a wii sitting in my drawer if you want to borrow it indefinitely.

A french buddy told me about this yesterday. So sad indeed.
Edit: I just read a new article that she was swimming in a restricted known shark area. Thats sad and a terrible mistake her parents have to live with if they let her.
It's also interesting to note the sharks there were hunted for food until the late 2000's when they all started having ciguatera.
-
Edit: Steven posted what I did at the same time.
So angled pins. that leading sharp edge is enough to destroy for sure. Even if its a little angled back.
-
Even notches are angled the good direction. Pins are the only thing I see as having a sharp edge. But without a glove I could imagine just the shooting line and fins doing that. Skin is so delicate.
-
I def dont want my gun misfiring. But this is a good reason not to use pinned shafts. I cant see sharkfins doing the same thing. Was he wearing gloves I wonder?
OUCH! I see tendons and stuff.

Very nice. I was following your build of your great Blue Water speargun- beautiful work
maybe I missed it - but have you used it yet? How is it besides a beauty? Thanks! I got to fire a test shot into the blue and it was balanced well and shot great without too much recoil. But it's still yet to receive a proper using. Hopefully the weather starts cooperating and I can get off shore and really test it soon.

Got to sneak away from working for a little beachdive this morning.
It rained cats and dogs yesterday so I wasnt expecting much. Pleasantly to my surprise the viz was very diveable. It was silty, but I could barely make out the bottom all the way out to the first. And on the bottom it was good enough to see some fish. Didnt go too far cause I was with a newbie buddy with short fins. But still managed to get a nice red grouper and miss a few other fish on the first reef with my rusty aim.

I need me one of those submarines
This could actually be really awesome. A lionfish spearing drone. An ROV with a 3 prong and a bag. Hit the super deep wrecks and fill the cooler.

With dowels all you need is enough line to wrap the line around the dowel 2-3 times over itself and that will hold strong enough you can apply as much force as you want. A bedpost is probably much easier but I can imagine it wasting a lot of line. Screwdriver handles probably a bit more waste then dowels but less then a bedpost.
-
I wrap my band holding hand in a few layers of a folded up towel so when the needle nose slips I dont put a hole in my hand. It also really helps to have a dowel to keep the needle nose spread apart when pulling them out.
Dans small ID rubber is the best.

Awesome pics for sure. Your new cam is yearning for clear water.
The guy in the hooded ulusub rashguard is me. any hood does cause some water suction near the ears but it doesnt bother me that much. Since im as ginger as they come i have two choices. hoods or turn into lobster head. I always choose the hood.

Alejandro you definitely want to go to blue springs. Its inside a nice little park 20-30 mins north of Orlando. Its basically a medium sized springhead and run with a very large vertical hole right down the middle. At 60 ft is a sign that warns scuba divers to not die and it veers off. Its perfect for freediving and there is also some camping there. You have to reserve far ahead if you want to camp though. I went years ago and it was really really cool. There are a few others I will find the name of I was interested in visiting soon. But they dont seem as cool for freediving as bluesprings.

I changed my mind some. I played with the colors in photoshop and really like the texture/pattern in different colors. (green, brown, red, grey, blue all looked cool) I think its mainly the olive color that throws me off. This is all purely from an aesthetics standpoint which is my main concern in choosing a suit color/pattern. Camo wise the palette is probably really good for a lot of stuff.
-
I think the broken up "areas" of the camo are awesome and look very pleasing and natural to me. However I dont like the color palette or the pattern of the camo as much as your current offerings. The pattern looks to me almost like it was all sponged on with the same sponge, very flat. And the palette I think is too "olive" for my tastes.

Current is always a mystery to me. Sometimes I go out expecting it to be ripping based on the moon and tides and its like a pool. Other times its the opposite.
Yesterday was for me a much needed good time. My work to dive ratio has been really screwed up lately and yesterday was a big step in the right direction. Viz wasnt good but it was good enough. It also got really sloppy as the day went on. Was lucky enough to have my brother captaining so I got to do a lot of diving. Got a few fish and missed/chased even more. I think frank got some cool pics with his new cam I am excited to see. Also got to have fun with good friends and brought my dads 4th child back in one piece ( his boat )

Does someone have a short hole gun I can borrow for tomorrow.
So I can reach the trigger with it pointed at me.

Super busy this whole week/weekend of course the diving is epic. Looks beautiful out there. Thanks for the report I think.

Where were they last week???
When we solve that one they will rename fishing to catching <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin"> <img src= " class="smiley" srcset="https://spearfishing.world/forum/images/smilies/emojione/1f606@2x.png 2x" height="23" width="23" loading="eager" data-tooltip="biggrin" aria-label="biggrin">.
It was a combo of just plain ole luck and more time with baits in the water (from 7-2) to make that luck work. One school we hit trolling out of the blue early in the morning around 10. The others we found later in the day by spotting bird activity on the water. We found warmer water about 15 miles out at the 55 line. Which is where a lot of action was concentrated.
One guy went out to the 35 line (30 mi from shore) and did really well with 40+ lbers etc. Pretty sure he won another tourney going on that day and made it worth it. But thats an expensive run.
The fishing was nearly as slow as last week. A clean ocean with very little weed or floatsam. Lots of frigates but they were looking for mahi not following.
-
Fished in a mahi tournament today. All hook and line but I killed some fish so I figured I would still post it here. Had a beautiful rain free day on the water. Fishing was hard today but we managed to catch 21 schoolies and won aggregate wight limit in the tourney. Ended up getting into 3 different schools of fish in 1000ft 1100ft and 100ft. Got about 7 from each school. Missed a few real nice fish. One insane screamer of a knockdown ate the bait but not the hook (made a TLD30 set to strike scream like a mofo so it was a big fish) also lost a 15lber at the boat. The 15lber was an expensive fish and would have won us second place. Heres a few pics from the day.
